gt3071r project...heres the goods

I posted in the ATP thread before i saw this one, but somehow i knew Mark was the person that tuned your car. Hes the only person i know that goes apeshit while tuning a car. I hope you have good luck with him...i know ill never take my car back to him for tuning. He tuned my turbo crx and it blew up 3 weeks later on its first pass at Piedmont. I took the map to Howard at RLZ and he said that the tune was pretty much trash. My a/f ratios were all over the place(varied by almost 3 points in a 1.5krpm range), and i had WAY too much timing in the top end. And thats not the only bad part. During the tune he got pissed and slammed his clip board on top of my car, which left a little dent and some scratches. The car was a piece so i didnt mind it too much, but the fact that he did it in the first place sorta pissed me off.

I hope you have better luck with him than i(and many other guys in the area) did. Basically everyone around here takes their cars to RLZ or P1 to get tuned now. Its a decent drive, but the quality of the tune and customer service are second to none...especially with Jack at P1.

Im not trying to knock your tune or anything, just giving you a heads up with the bad experiences ive had with Mark. Like i said, i really hope you have a better experience with him that i did because i want to see that beast on the streets and running strong.

BTW-Do you know DC personally? If so then tell him Sean from HP says whats up. I used to go up there and chill with them all the time at the old shop, but ive only been to the newer one a few times. Booger and Mike C both owe me money so i need to get my lazy ass up there lol.

so for the GT3071 turbo, what all needs to be done to the car for it to work well? im looking at getting it soon :)

hey hey now, we've got almost 20,000 miles on our GT3071R stock motor mazdaspeed6 and all the rods are where they belong :)

i thought 15psi daily and 18psi aggressive tune. don't hold me to that though.

Their shop car is the reason I'm considering not building the motor.... erg.

What did the car make on the aggressive tune at 18psi? I thought it made like 330awhp on 15psi.

You should build the motor around the turbo! (dance). If that turbo is efficient at 25+ PSI, better keep it that way and get an eagle rotating assembly to boot.
Throw in a cam, some head work, intake (don't think one is even on the market yet), turbo manifold, fuel improvement/tune, then you will be ready for snapping half shafts and grenading the trans!! WOOHOO(lol2)(2thumbs)

I'm sure you mentioned this before, but how many psi are you running daily? It's without meth correct?

jason currently runs the car at 18psi. the car is fitted with a snow performance methanol injection kit but has not been truly tuned to take advantage of it.

Be interested in seeing that thing tuned. A lot cars show a small drop in performance with methanol before a tune and then ungodly numbers after. Im sure he will be ripping up asphalt when its all hooked up.

I copied this from elsewhere but heres the details on my car

We screwed up the solenoid install... there was some restrictor something or other that we didnt pull off the old turbo before i sent it off. Jordan at CPE and my tuner were on the phone, back and forth all day, After fixing the issues of the solenoid we then started getting our commanded boosts. We added and subtracted fuel and there was no problems...none. The timing was played with and we played with all sorts off other parameters... mostly centered around getting a smooth power curve.

A/F was great. We had added fuel intially down low and pulled some up top.... It stayed great all the way through the session... at least 20-30 pulls. A?F was in the 10.8-11.4 range after pulling it.. We didnt get much power by pulling fuel past that.

Final numbers for today were a heatsoaked 308whp and 320/trq at 16 psi tuned. Im a little disappointed but you have to remember that I was at about 260-270 on this dyno before. That means Ive gained about 40-50 whp with the manifold, inlet, and turbo running less psi.

Car is a rocket and I make power to redline. On the dynos I dont even start to fall until about 6400. On the other dyno in town I'd probably be around 325/340 based on previous runs, so dont be too disappointed with these numbers... Im mostly excited about the gains and the way the car feels. The BPV sounds like a sledgehammer now... its awesome. Turbo spool is VERY noticeable.

And again... huge.... is the a/f. Graph looks stock except for where we played. The fuel pump is working great, and I cant say enough about the standback and how great my tuner thought it was to use.

The guys at CPE and the standback should not be written off. **** anybody that gives me a hard time about it too.:) We adjusted fuel handily, timing, boost, pid control to smooth the curves and it worked.... Jordan spent most of the afternoon back and forth with Mark on the phone. Everything worked great once we sorted out our own mistakes.

All right.... ask away if you want too. And sorry I have no graphs, pictures, nada... they will be posted later. I was in a hurry to get out of there when they got done and my wife was pissed our first day back(from vacation).... I spent all afternoon with the car and was late getting home.

I think most of you know Im not making all this s*** up though:)
