PUP 5w30 Plus Shell Nitro Premium

This is more of a statement than a question.

This is a NON scientific observation.

So in my 2025 SKyactive na CX5, after much research and reading forums, I did the first oil change with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 and NOT the recommended 0w20 AND... Ive been filling up with the Shell Nitro Premium gas, and all i can say is WOW!

It seems like the car runs way better than when i first got it with the factory oil and regular unleaded. Cant even hear it on the expressway, quietness, pickup and acceleration, responsiveness, are amazing. I feel like im driving a turbo :)

Im thinking this particular fuel/oil combo may be a great one.

Could this be the placebo effect? Possibly. But I dont think so. Others have noticed it as well.

I am not interested in starting yet another "is premium gas worth the cost" debate.

I am interested, however, in hearing if any of you feel like your oil/fuel combo is making a difference (or not) in your Cx5, especially if you are going against the grain, and what you are using, etc.

Thanks.

There are differences between oils but in an 187hp NA engine you would only see maybe 3hp according to this test. This big block Chevy producing 470hp saw an 8hp difference between oils from best to worst (not counting the break-in oil).

My CX-5 runs great with PUP (turbo) whether I use 91 from Phillips 66 with Top Tier or the BP/Amoco with Invigorate. But I can't give a subjective opinion because I haven't tried enough different oils and fuels (no desire to) and it wouldn't be very valuable without hard data.

I really think only hard data matters here because our butt dyno is not reliable :D . No offense.

On my previous 2020 CX-5 NA I've had the same combination, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 and, most of the time ,93 V-Power Nitro from Shell. But I'd say it was running the same, whether it was Shell Nitro gasoline or H-E-B 93 premium gasoline or Chevron 93 gasoline or whatever. I can't say that I've noticed any difference. On my current CX-5 I use the same combo.

Our Shell stations in Nebraska recently changed to Amoco (BP) so I don't even have them as an option now.

Yeah, I posted about that a while back.

5W-30 makes the engine quieter and more refined, it's a must.

are we talking cafe standards or going with the average temperature differences with usa/canada vs the rest of the globe? i love that post-its what set me off on the "journey" and maybe even got me on this forum.....
I know others have mentioned it but....the cx-5 dip stick is a challenge to get a quick read on-sorry if i spun off topic -valvoline r/r and top tier all the way-have run both 0w-20 and 5w-30...stayed with 5w-30

These engines loosen up after 5 or 6k miles. My guess is that's what you're feeling.
Could be but i only have 2k miles on it.. so who knows....

I also have 5w30 in my skyactive Na.. yes i noticed that about the dipstick.. i just put in the 4.8 quarts and check it is somewhere in between...i am not worried about getting it exactly to the "f"
