Yeah, Browning Mazda, which is part of the largest auto mall in the world.... in the Cerritos Auto Square. HELLO!!!!! lol. Thats where i bought my MSP.

I was going to buy my MSP from Cerritos since I live in Downey but they didn't have a Titanium at the time so I go it from Galpin Mazda. I took my car in this morning to have them install the auto dimming mirror and to get the flash. The service guy claims the flash should have already been done, since I don't trust these guys is there anyway to verify that it has been flashed or would it hurt the car to get it flashed even if it possibly has already been flashed? Service guy also said that since he thinks my car has already been flashed, if I experience any hesitation it's probably turbo lag.

Please shed some light, anyone. Could it have already been flashed or is he feeding me some bulls*** story?

When did you buy it? If it was before the 12th, he's full of poop! They didn't get the flash until then, and even then, it took them all day (if they could) to do the updates. Then they'd have to do every car in the lot, which could take several days. So...anytime before the 12th-15th of September and it's a possiblity that there was no flash done to your car. You can even show him the email at the beginning of this thread form the Mazda OBD-II engineer, which dealerships around the country should have gotten Friday morning. If they flashed your car before that, they didn't have the right flash (or really, any at all!)

I bought my car a week ago today...so I picked it up on the 16th. The day I picked up the car I met the service guy and I mentioned the flash to him. He said that I only needed it if I noticed the hesitation but today the same guy is telling me that it should already have the flash. :wtf: Is this guy giving me the run around or what? I am probably going to go down to a different Mazda dealer and get it done. Let's just say it has already been flashed and just to make sure I get it flashed again(since I don't trust these idiots), would it hurt the ecu to flash it more than once?

Thanks,

Rudi

I doubt it. They should be able to check what calibration number is on it, like a bios I'd assume. Hopefully a dealship will be good enough to do that for you. It should only take them a minute of so to put it on the machine and check the PCM's ID number. If you're right and they didn't flash it then they would have to do it anyway. If they're telling the truth and did flash it, then it should be as simple as proving to the customer that work you promised done on his car has been completed. However, I would check your car to see if there are any stickers on it that state that the flash has been done it. Otherwise...just have them check for you, in front of you, so that you can check what PCM code comes up.

I had only started to get the hesitation when I got my car flashed. There's no sticker anywhere saying that it was done, but I can feel the difference. Before the flash, if I was in any gear besides 5th, and let off the throttle quickly, the whole car would lurch. Now, it's much smoother.

I don't remember my car lurching forward like that. I really didn't look for the sticker.

Do you by any chance know what calibration number is for this flash?

I've owned 2 Proteges now and they've BOTH had that problem! Mine still does it after the flash too. The thing is, there's no consistancy to when mine does it. My 2000 ES would do it in gears 3-5 50% of the time --- EXTREMELY annoying because it would do it even with the cruise on!!! When the cruise would let up just a smidgen on the gas the whole car would lurch forward and there'd be like this big "jump" in the drive train. My MSP has the same issue but not nearly as bad -- the MSP only does it about 15% of the time and usually only in 3rd or 4th gear. Still bugs me though that Mazda has not addressed this common problem. I mean when the car does it when you have the cruise control set, you know there's a problem. I never took it to the stealer because I knew there'd be no way to relaibly recreate it. And even if he could he would just say it's a "characteristic of the car."

my dealer doesn't have a clue as to how to get it :(

That's even after passing them the info from here.

I'm still trying. They are fixated on saying they can't just update the wds to 24.7 onine, and have to wait for a cd for that, AND wait for a cd for the fix...arg. They don't know wtf to do but they are pretty persistant so I'm sure with time they'll figure it out.

girth you may have a bad (or going-south) motor mount. Bad mounts will cause driveline lurch, esp. in FWD cars. I notice it more in the MSP than in my old A2 VW's because the mounts are a little softer - makes a smoother idle and quieter engine, but a little more lurch (reminds me of the Addams family...). Not that much though... may want to check it. I know aftermarket mounts are available, but be careful, this is definitely a case of a little goes a long way - I had race mounts in the race GTI and it about rattled my fillings out.

The softer mounts, combined with the pre-flash ECU, made for some lurchy driving. Post flash I don't notice it as much as the engine isn't bucking as badly on part throttle or on/off/on throttle applications.

Have u tried to call another dealer? Maybe they DO have to wait for the CD if the only connection to the net they have is through a 56k or whatever... That update is large as hell, and that is why some dealers with a low BW connection wait for the CD.

I got Flashed last night. Its good! I do feel the super miner amount of hesitation a lot of people talked about. It is night and day better than it was. I got pulled over on I77 (30 mi. S. of Cleveland) testing it out but he let me go. He said I took off too fast on the entrance ramp, got going too fast on the highway and passed without a turn signal. Then he pointed out my friend in the passenger seat didn't have his seatbelt on. These guys hide in the shadows!!! I did not go over 80 MPH. I did a 70 to 80 speed increase in 4th gear and it pulled very strong. Thats when he got me. It took forever for him to catch me. 3 miles! ;) or more.

I got mine flashed yesterday AND got my radio replaced (for the second time). Mazda of Knoxville did it in one day AND got my wife a loaner car. I haven't driven it yet but am tingling with anticipation (or something like that)... I hate that a lot of you guys have had probs with your dealers, I guess I've been really fortunate so far (in Va Beach and here in Knoxville)

What to do

For the Jersey guy's,

Has any one gone to route 1 Samson Mazda with MOD's to get the flashed.

I just made an appointment for Monday, and I don't know If I should take off my MBC

or the FP KIT. I hope the Exhaust is not a problem, it is load as hell...

I was waiting for Route 22 to get off there ASS, but from what my brother told me,

that service department sucks, and they don't even believe the flash is real.

A top manager told him that we are all lying.:wtf: :bs:

They can get the CD from mazda QA in one day...my dealer downloaded the flash, I took my car in and it would not update. They had to rebuild the PC as it started not flashing other cars, got a CD from mazda in one day.

Got mine flashed yesterday at Paul Miller Mazda in Lexington. From what I gathered there, Mazda NA really dropped the ball with the announcment of this flash to their service centers.

Anyway, the flash works. I no longer feel the stumble. I can also break the tires free in the first 3 gears now. Car feels more solid through out the rpm range.

What happened to your radio that you needed it to be replaced a 2nd time? I have a new Pioneer Premier head unit that I pulled out of the car I traded in for the MSP. I was thinking of putting it in place of the kenwood, would this be a good idea?

radio replacement

About replacing your radio: The stock one in the MSP has lots of "bling" factor (or so I'm told, I heard that used once) -- but I've had problems with it eating CD's and not giving them back AND not playing them... so that there is a CD just stuck in it permantantly. Based on my experience, I'd say get a new one if you can, but don't void your warranty! Check with your dealer because you'll need the warranty for the windshield (if yours hasn't cracked already)!
