Re: radio replacement

Novot said:
About replacing your radio: The stock one in the MSP has lots of "bling" factor (or so I'm told, I heard that used once) -- but I've had problems with it eating CD's and not giving them back AND not playing them... so that there is a CD just stuck in it permantantly. Based on my experience, I'd say get a new one if you can, but don't void your warranty! Check with your dealer because you'll need the warranty for the windshield (if yours hasn't cracked already)!

Well from my past experiences with dealers, what ever you modify you only void that part of the warranty. For example, you mess with the stereo you void the stereo part of the warranty, you change the springs or struts you void the suspension part of your warranty. It doesn't matter if the cars warranty is expired or not but safety issues are always taken care of, I don't know if the window thing would be a safety thing but maybe.

Like I posted early my car is at the dealer to have the auto dimming mirror installed. I'll get the car back tomorrow. The service dude said he would hook it up to their machine or whatever to see if the flash has been done, if not they will flash it for me. Finally, they are going to flash it.

I just got back from the dealer and I'm flashed. Of course since my car is new and I'm breaking it in, I really have not brought up the rpms that much so I never experienced the hesitation but I love the way my car drives. Also had the Auto Dimming/Compass/Temp rear view mirror put in, it kicks ass.

On a side note I dropped my brand new cell phone in the service drive of the dealer...god damn it, it looks used now. :( Oh well, time to get a case for it. :D

has anyone got the flash in the bay area (s.f. area)? if so, where did you get it? i'm having a hard time getting the flash around here.

Updated List

Well, considering how many dealership names are floating around in this threat .. I thought I'd read through everything and make an updated list of all the dealerships that are aware of the flash. If I missed any dealerships, my apologies -- my eyes get tired after reading through 13 pages of posts.

Also, I spoke to Rider Mazda in State College, PA. They are aware of the flash, and are getting it -- they should have it within a week. They don't have it presently due to some software problems, which are currently being repaired.

thanks for the reply GaBerry67MS035. i see menlo mazda in CA on your list. i got my car there, so i called them earlier today to see if they knew of the flash. two guys that i talked to (charles and john) said that they haven't received it yet. the other places on the list that are in CA are too far for me to drive to. San Luis Obispo is a possibility, but even that place is pretty far from me. has anyone from the bay area had their msp reflashed? if so, where was it done. thanks.

I see some mention to Faulkner Mazda in Pennsylvania. Just to let you know, I brought mine there on Monday to have the flash. They explained to me that they knew about the flash but had not downloaded it yet. I left my car there with them for the day and they told me that I would be the "guinea pig". Three days later, I finally have my car back. They said they had a horrible time updating their machines and Mazda was giving them the runaround about the right program.

They now have it loaded and ready to go.

On a side note: I'm not sure if the car is any different. I don't have a sticker in the engine bay like some others mentioned. The car seems quicker but maybe it is just because I was driving a Protege DX for three days and the Speed seems much quicker now that I'm back in the drivers seat.

Also, I figured that they would have disconnected the battery to do the reflash, thus causing me to reset the radio presets and the time. I got in after the reflash and put my radio face back on and everything was just the way I left it.

Were your cars disconnected during the flash? Should I reset the ECU?

Thanks for any help!

**** MAN!!! im supposed to go to faulkner tomarrow morning at 8, they better have there s*** together when i get there...those bastards dicked me around the last time i went there for the leak and told me i had a plastic bag cought on my exhaust, bulls***. I hate that place i need to go somewhere else.

Mark94 --

I'm glad to see someone else that's gone to Faulkner!

I bought my Speed from them at the end of July, and as I'm originally from the Philly area, I was planning on going back to them to get the flash when I go home for Thanksgiving -- if Rider Mazda out here can't get their act together in time.

As far as the location of the sticker -- I've read that it can be in a lot of different places. The doors, under the hood, and I think I read somewhere that it was nearby the wheel well in the engine compartment.

There was also someone else who said that their battery wasn't disconnected for the flash -- but I don't know how things turned out there. Try looking at earler pages in this thread.

But if I have to go back to Faulkner in a month or so to get my Speed flashed .. I'll let you know how it went. And thank you for the information on that dealership!

I don't think there is anything to worry about when talking about Faulkner. This is my second Speed that I bought from them and they have been nothing but gracious and accomodating for me.

They now have the new program loaded into their computers so it should not be as long of a process as it was for me.

Throughout the past three days I dealt with Tim, and when he called today to tell me that everything went well and I could pick up the car, I asked about the sticker and he said that there is no sticker. He said it is logged into their database that it was done and that I should have no problems.

It probably was done, but it doesn't feel much different to me. One thing I did notice was a high pitched whistle like someone else mentioned. Around 4000 RPM's I noticed a whistle that I never heard in this car or my previous Speed so I'm sure that the flash was done. I'm just not sure if I should reset my ECU as a precaution.

First gear seems real strong throughout the band but when I shift into second the power seems to fall off. It's hard to explain but in first the tach needle climbs so quickly but in second and above it seems to struggle to get the higher RPM's.

Me too..I've been dicked by the service tech twice already....first time I went in for the 15K service (oil, lubes, rotation) and they didn't even rotate my tires. $100+ to change the oil!! Then I needed my sub replaced, as it dropped out. I went to get that done & rotation that wasn't done before, and it takes 4+ hours! To change an f#*@ing sub & rotate tires!:bs: And the apology I get is a ******* free oil change! Thanks soooo much Paul!!:wtf:

Post flash: Took out the MSP last night for a test run through the country. No hesitation yet!

Project: do you have a sticker in the engine bay or anywhere for that matter? Was your battery disconnected?
