Engine #3 For Me!

You're still using the stock fuel rail? I thought you swapped that out. Plus isn't there a limit to the rail? The flow limit I mean and it's still being fed from one side. Which could be that injector 4 is not providing enough fuel. How was fuel pressure? I say upgrade to new injector wiring and upgrade the fuel rail? I dunno...could be wrong.

Perrin fuel rail and STi 575's. Fuel pressure is around 80psi under boost.

I have a hard time believing that a small piece of piston missing would cause the piston to get that out of shape. The whole piston is the same diameter and the missing piece wasn't even at a point parallel to the way the piston can flop. Also if the piston was "flopping" in the bore the lower most part of the skirt should be scored more since it would have the most contact with the cylinder wall.

I'll take a micrometer to it but I'm sure the piston is collapsed.

yea...cool..I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything. I just would like to know what specifically caused the failure. Having just went to a turbo setup myself on a stock block I'm concerned when a built block messes up even at higher boost.

So took my piston around to a few mechanics at work here, and they're thinking oil starvation. The piston collapsed and then started flopping around and broke off the piece by that valve. WOuld explain ****** rod bearings too, so I'll pull my old motor apart tonight and see if it looks the same.

had it been oil starvation then hmm..

where you taking a fast turn when it happened?
how often you check your oil levels?
do u have an upgraded oil pump thingy?

That, ladies and gentlemen is a technical term :p

of course man...that's from the family of thingys that are under the hood...

i dunno why mazda doesn't standarize this term....

there are so many nameless thingys under the hood

i thought third was a charm...

dude, stop this...you'll sink into the same hole again

rebuild the stock engine and get rid of the car

I can't man. I'm too far into this thing, and I know it was pushing 300HP before it blew. I can eat those cocky SRT-4's for runch and they never know what hit them.

yea, but i don't think that SRT-4 has been as expensive as your p5...

what if you blow it again? that's an expensive mistake

Keep going....man...you're at a point of no return. Let's get this thing ready for MITM.
