Dust Seal Replacement

When replacing my front pads the other week I noticed that the rubber boot that fits around the piston has a small tear. Is this boot the same thing as the dust seal? The manual shows the seal, but it really doesn't look like the boot.

Assuming they are the same, the manual states that the seal needs to be pressed in, and requires special tools. Has anyone done this?

Thanks!

Are you referring to the seal in the upper left? If so, yes replace it stat.

I haven't done the MS3 brakes yet but I've been told you can push the caliper back to position with a basic clamp. Rears are a different story.

Yes, I beleive that is it. However, that looks more like an actual seal instead of a boot. I'm guessing they are one in the same, but don't know since I have not taken it appart.

Judging by the anti-rattle spring, that looks like a Mazda 3 brake.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah IIRC there's the ring, piston, and boot. Definitely replace the boot as I believe excess dirt can cause the piston to sieze up. I don't think they sell the boot separately but you can check with the dealer to see if they sell a rebuild kit of sorts. GL.

A quick update on the front piston boot replacement:
- Yes, The boot and seal are two separate parts. However, they are sold together as seal and boot set. Part# B3YF3326Z

- The old boot is easily pried with a screw driver. But, it's a little difficult getting the new boot to seal around the caliper. Mazda recommends purchasing a special tool(s) in order to press in the seal. I was able to modify a 3" PVC end cap and use a C clamp to press the new seal onto the caliper.
