jesus i just had a seizure. the drawing for the big ring is final, the new tool is in, the new drawing should be going into mastercam tomorrow. if that goes smoothly hopefully ill have something to show you pretty soon.

these will be marked in a top-secret, irreversible way that only people whove owned both sets would be able to identify... if theyre perceptive. these will probably get a small engraving on the back as well.

and the original DaveB's are classic or better... they wont be getting much cheaper anytime soon. plus i wont get enough time with the lathe to make so many that there would be substantially less demand in the future.

I also have DaveB's it seems like I started the high prices I waited 3 years for a set to come up and when they did I paid 80 bucks for em and then they start popping up like crazy WTF!

sounds like you're going to keep yours as limited production as the originals... I like this, and that has nothing to do with my ownership of em.

its not intentional, a lot of it is because i only have so many weeks left to use the lathe. but still, if i handed them out like sticks of chewing gum it would be way less cool.

it happens a lot. someone gets a lot for one set, then people say "you know what, i could use the cash right now" and 4 more go up. the first ones always fetch a killing then they go down until no one wants to sell them for 60 anymore. supply and demand.

no major updates for this. hellish week where i got little done aside from schoolwork and helping my girlfriend rebuild her mac from scratch.

will do. just finishing up a 10 page slope analysis project which i sunk the better part of this week into. its more boring than it sounds... looking at a pile of dirt and guessing if itll fall over when it rains is only fun for so long.

it can be fun, it can also be a pain haha...

i will miss the labs when i have to leave.
i dont think my personal workshop is ever going to have horizontal and vertical band saws, a CNC lathe, CNC Mill, CNC plasma cutter... MIG/TIG welding equipment, plastic welders, table and miter saws, drill press, laser cutter, etc etc etc. we have some sweet ******* stuff ive got to play with over my 5 years here. definitely fun.

oh and by the way, i havent made a decision yet but im considering releasing the source code for the rings under a creative commons noncommercial no derivative license. then you could make them yourself, provided you had a CNC lathe, the proper tools, and the correct size stock.
the only thing holding me back from really planning to release the code is stree+ un1t. i know how bad they want their product not to suck, and even if i could sue them if i thought they were reusing the code, it might not stop them from trying.
