Cold Start Rattle and Roof Rack Noise...

hmmmmmm i might have to have that rattle checked out on mine...it sounds bad, and i cringe everytime i hear it....but mine also rattles when the engine is warm at around 2500-3000rpm

I just called the dealer this involes the ECM reprograming and a inspection of the VTCS. My problem has to be the ECM program and the only thing it could be since is the ECM is advancing the timing to much at initial start up and causing predetonation. The ECM really doesnt do much but control the fuel and timing.

it's NOT the timing advancement and there is NO engine damage involved although it sounds like it

the sound is coming from the VTCS butterflies... it's just swirl control shutter valves at the end of the intake manifold runners... the ECU pulses them opened and closed rapidly when the engine is cold and the metallic noise you hear is the result

Yes I know since then I have gotten rid of vtcs and got a mp3 ECM.

do the 02s have vtcs? i think im gettin that and vics mixed up again

all p5's have both vics and vtcs. The 03-03.5's are the 1's that seem to have the vtcs problems.

man i have the same problem and recently ive been hearing rattle noises from my exhaust i think and i never did any mods to my car!! ive only had it for 6 months...this problem just started to happen after driving my car to vegas...when ever i accelerate i hear that rattle noise!!!
