civic si??

Actually my friend has one. I pulled up at the light next to him and we both took off and like a goof i missed second gear. Has anyone else noticed that second gear is a b**** in our cars? If you get the jump i think u can hang with a civic si, they have more horsepower but we have more torque.

ezrider, just to let u know, i have noticed that at 15500 miles that i have right now on my car, after having grinding from 1st to 2nd, now is almost to never present. I mean, it is finally smooth for me to shift to 2nd. Just giving some hope if you have less miles.

I raced a si from redlight to another redlight with a supra on a third lane, results were supra, me, si. They got no torque unless supercharged, but at the long run with a stock si they can gain little by little on us. And just for info, i shifted to 2nd probally around 6000-6200. No grinding now.

With drivers being equal, the Si (new and older model) should whip up on a MP3 or P5. Heck, even the Civic EX will kick a P5 and run closely with the MP3.

Civic EX 0-60 8.4 1/4 16.5
Civic Si 0-60 7.9 1/4 15.9
MP3 0-60 8.9 1/4 16.5
MP5 0-60 9.5 1/4 17.2

Of course, these times are estimates based on known publications. There is always a variance.

of course gene this does assume that the stop lights are 1/4 mile apart.....shorter distances........ya just never know....not to mention ya just gotta take into account the inexperience of any driver.....

like the saying goes...."even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then" :{D

guys define your "si" somewhat better.

There's the Canadian SI ( 125hp, or 127hp), and there seems to be the US one ( 160hp) which was called the SiR here in Canada. Of course now there's the Hatchback si as well.

And the MP3 is NOT 8.9. It's 8.3. Even Mazda's own brouchure claimed 8.7 ( before it was realeased i've got it right here on my desk), but most mags and sites are getting 8.2 or 8.3. I don't know where you got those times, but they all seem a little off.

But please, don't turn this into another ES, P5, SI vs MP3 debate.

Been there done that here already.

That is good to hear because right now my car has 1,755 miles. It is my weekend car.

I didn't realize there were such strong feelings about the 0-60 times. I saw 8.9 in an old issue of Motor Trend. But then again, I think I read a 0-60 time of 8.3 in Car and Driver.

The variance seems to exist all over the place. My 5-speed 323i was tested by Autoweek at 6.4 0-60, when the manufacturer says 7.1. It's all ball bearings these days.

Bottom line, it's all about the driver.

Yeah I always hated how Honda screwed around with the names here in Canada....what's so hard to just call the models all the same thing on both sides of the border??

SI vs MP3

Just to throw in some information here and not to start a flame, the US Si (160hp model) would whoop the MP3's ass.

I've owned both now and can say with out a shadow of a doubt that the Si is MUCH quicker than the MP3.

Throw in a couple turns though and we have a totally different story. On a twisty mountain road the MP3 should be able to keep pace if not over take the Si.

Raced my buddy in his 2000 Civic Si with AEM Cai, and MSD wires he had his girl and his carseat in the car and i have 3 passengers. We were on our way back from mooney's last week and we raced, his girl counted down 3.2.1 i got the jump to redline in first but then when 2second came he barely pulled on me to about 1 1/2 car lenghs all the way to about 80-90mph. "Wait till i get my Injen Cai and Exhaust on.lol":p

Simple solution.....throw a custom turbo on the MP3, turn up the boost and let them suck your exhaust.....and lose em even worse in the twisties! :D

I will have to disagree with you~~ my buddy has a 5 speed Civic EX and I spank him with my 5 speed P5. ~~ too much torque for the Honda! I also have a Civic EX, mine is auto though, and it destroys the automatic, but that is apples to oranges.

Again, I think that it comes down to the driver. The specs clearly fall into the favor of the Civic EX over the P5.

yeah really, a civic EX. It's not even an effort to beat it. Anyone that gets beat by one of those needs to learn how to drive. Now the 160 hp one is another story: We can't catch it in a straight line. But in the twisties, there's just no comparing it to the mp3.

I dont really do street racing because I think its stupid.....not saying that I dont ever street race;)
But about 2 weeks ago I am cruising along the interstate at about 70mph and this si gets next to me and keeps trying me. So I ignore him and this punk really wants to race me bad. I look at what he has exhaust, intake and probably headers. The car looked very clean and was not ricey but the owner was a real dick. So finally after messing with me for 5 minutes he gets sick and tired and drops it into third and takes off. I think to myslef wouldnt that be cool if I give him a couple car lengths advantage plus monentum and then smoke his ass....So thats what I exactly did:D
You should see the look on his face when he saw me pulling him down....I purposley shifted right next to his window so he could here my BOV venting and continued to pull on him until I was about 6 car lengths in front and the he gave up. After I slowed down and he slowly passed me and was lookin in his mirrors staring at my intercooler.....haaah reeeeeeeeeespect baby:D

I just got back from test driving the civic si. Actually i went to test drive a Mini however they were too busy so I drove the si. I liked how it drove, but I hate its styling. I would take my p5 over it any day. However I do envy the silky smooth engine it has. It is by far the smoothest 4cyl engines I have ever driven. Another thing is I did not like the placement of the shifter, its too high up for me.
