Whats up board. Ive pretty much been a consistent poster since i joined after I bought my 7. As many of you know on here, i bought a car that turned out to be a lemon (i had about every issue the TSB's addressed + an engine on the fritz)

I have turned to the darkside and am getting an Acura RDX on moday. Like i said in my test drive post, this was a decision that came down to expected reliability and resale value. Mazda is a great brand, but my opinion has been slighted by my experience with the cx-7. Although the 08's are expected in a few weeks, buying one will not put my mind at ease about what i went thru and how the product will behave, even being the next model year.

I will surely miss the driving and fun factor of the 7, it still remains unmatched at this price and segment, its hard not to smile when u look at the 7, drive it, and own one. However, im sure I will be smiling when im not going to the dealer every few weeks for service.

Best of luck with your rides, and ill check in every now and again!! (usa)

Thanks Mikey. I hate to see you go as I've always enjoyed & learned from your posts and perspective. (I'm happy to hear you'll visit from time to time.) Most days on my walk to work, I pass an RDX and since you made your announcement, I've been looking at it more closely. I think if you have to go to the dark side and leave us, you chose well. I hope you enjoy it and that what you miss about the CX-7 is outweighed by other measures of contentment. I think you made a well thought out decision for yourself, given all you've been through. The rest of us (or at least me) will stay here and knock on wood that we stay lucky with our 7s.

I still can't get over the way that thing looks but glad you're happy.

well, i gotta say, i really didnt like the RDX from its release looks wise, but man, where the Mazda is sharp and edgy, and makes people ask "what is that!?" the Acura has gotten the remarks of " that is sharp, or classy" a more modest response but a more respectful review vs the MAzda's cutting edge wow factor. I dont prefer the look of the back of the RDX, to me its a sports wagon and more plain, but the grille wins hands down over the whale mouthed cx-7.

quick update: put on 400 miles this weekend, just so happened i had alot of places to get to. The RDX is a charm, its brakes are alot softer than the Mazda which is taking me some time to get used to. The engine lacks the mid range UMPH! that the mazda has, but boy from a stop to 30 and 50 + this thing is a frigging rocket. much more power at higher speeds, its like the engine doesnt want to stop pumping, im seriously impressed. Highway driving is an 100% improvement. where at times my cx-7 might have been caught flat footed, or inbetween gears, the Acura is seamless with highspeed power delivery.

overall, the Acura quality is starting to shine thru with the materials and construction.

The Mazda for city driving is more exhilirating and i do miss that.

If any of you would like to see more pics, comparison speaking 7 vs Rdx, like the engine or areas of the car, lemme know, i can post em up, but its still a mazda board and i dont want to swamp it with RDX pcis. (blowup)

Everyone has a certain taste, and I think Mikey1981 has more similar tastes than different. Heck, he picked up the Mazda CX-7 first. But, after a few too many issues, the only taste he had left was a sour one for Mazda. Can't blame him for that. There have been quite a few issues with the CX-7 which can be attributed to first model year teething, but some have been rather serious. Acura makes a very tight product. I really wish the Mazda engineers could take a peek-see into the RDX engine tuning. Like Mikey1981 has said, the RDX is a rocket to 60 mph at 6.6 secs compared to the measely 7.9 secs on the CX-7. Hell, a new Scion Xb does 7.8 secs on a heck of a lot less horsepower and torque. Something is definitely not right there.

Yeah, I still think there is alot of performance left on the table with the CX-7 do to a poor tune. Hopefuuly Mazda will come to the party with a decent PCM reflash.

hey mikey one question is the trunk space the same as the cx-7?

They differ in proportions. The RDX is more suv-like; picture a square box fitting into the back. The 7 would be more rectangular - the roof slopes down way more. The RDX has more headroom for space, probably due to the fact that the back seat cusions fold out and up and the seat-backs fold into where the bottom was - it creates a lower floor which opens up alot more space for taller items. The 7's seat lay on top of the bottom seatcushion and eats up some space

I just picked up a pro form exercise bike yeserday and the entire thing went in one piece.

I will post a comparison pic of the back-ends when it stops raining here.
