Car rolling in gear

Hey guys, gotta question for you. I was swapping from winters to summers yesterday and had the MSP rear up on jack stands. The car was parked in 1st gear with the handbrake all the way up. As I was jacking up the rear left wheel the car rolled forward! I thought this was weird so I got the car back and parked it in reverse. It rolled again as I was jacking it up! Now, I admit that I usually put bricks in front of the front wheels for added protection and forgot to do it this time but it was IN gear and rolled forward...which makes me worry. In my old Nissan Sentra, when the car was in gear, there was no way to get it to move, even with the handbrake down. The car runs great apart from this. The only thing it has is a little rough idle sometimes which I attribute to my blown wastegate and/or needing to change the coils.

Could this be my clutch slipping? The car has 121K. Could it be a bigger problem? I read online that parking it in gear doesn't stop the car from moving but only limits the movement (so if you park on a steep hill and don't pull the handbrake, the car WILL roll even in gear). Is this true? Thanks in advance guys.

Yes the car can still move while in gear. If it is moving while the e-brake is up you probably need to get it adjusted. I have no idea how to do it but I also had an old 98 200sx as my first car with about 120k and I had an e-brake adjustment done. It does not involve much time so you can get it done cheap.

i think it is still possible for the car to roll in gear its a good idea to put it in gear on a hill though

Yea if the car is facing down a hill, put it in reverse. If the car is facing up a hill, put it in first. It keeps some of the stress off of the brakes. Also a good idea to keep your wheels turned towards a curb in case it does coast.
