Blacked out my emblems! (pics)

Sweet but how?

It looks really great, now how do you get it to still stay shiny like it is. i have a midnight blue mica pro5, and i'd like to maybe like to make the emblems kinda like an aqua blue color. How can i do this with out making it look crappy. And will you have to do touch ups on your emblems now that you have painted them black?

Gok my man!!! from the land of the "once owned a blue si 2 cars ago!" LOL, congrates mate!!! they're a good grew over here, lots of usefull info.
cheers

sorry for the delay in posting, been away!

regarding the paint, it was semi-gloss (or satin) plastic bumper paint. it was in a spray can. i used this paint as it was very durible & had a glaze or clear coat mixed in with it. i'll read the can tonight and post the exact brand, name etc.

all i did was leave the car in direct sun light for a couple of hours, (didn't have a heat gun or hair dryer) mask under the emblems, and pry them off easily using a plastic spatular. (you could use a flat butter knife if you wrapped it in masking tape)
i used steal wool to cause a very slight abrasion on the surface of the chrome emblems, then gave them about 4 coats of the bumper paint. they re-attach using a peg & grommet type fixment. i also used a little clear silicon (sp) adhesive.

regarding the "Protege5" badge i carefully masked off the "5" part before spraying. it was a little labor intensive, using a craft knife to cut to size, but it think the result was worth it. the contrast of the red "5" looks great against the black emblems & black exterior paint.

i recently did the same thing to a friend with the a silver RSX type S, we used a Gunmetal or satin gray golor paint, this color combination looked great!!

hope this helped & many thanks for the comments.

cheers

Back from the dead!

Anyone else done this? Brand of paint used? I like the look. I think I feel a weekend project coming on. Do you just stick them back on with 3M 2 sided emblem tape?

The link is for pics of how I did mine. I used Krylon Fusion satin paint (same as my headlights). And yes some double sided tape and you are good to go. Plan on doing my rear emblems soon.

When I removed mine, I used a razorblade to get under the emblem. using 1 hand I pried up the emblem, used the razor to cut through the adhesive.

Brake cleaner removes the adhesive the easiest, just wash your car afterwards.

I left my mazda and pro5 emblems off. went to Lowes and bought 4, 1/4inch nylon hole plugs. I painted the heads black to match the car, and plugged em in when the paint was dry.

I checked via pressure washer, and the hole plugs do not leak.

The gunmetal in that thread was pretty cool, but still too chrome for me. I'm about to commence blackening.

Did you use any kind of clearcoat over the Fusion? I just did my rear emblems with Fusion, and I'm wondering how yours is holding up to weather, washings, and such. I have clearcoat too, but I like the look of the satin finish and I don't really want to add any gloss. So, if I can get some durability without clear I'll go for it.

My rear emblems right now are fusion without clearcoat and they've been that way for I'd say a year now .. holding up well to weather and washings, even a handful of touchless automatic washes with their harsh chemicals during the winter.

Very nice,Bloke! From the looks of it,it seems like your first appearance mod.Good start!I'd get the windows tinted, nice dark rims and a drop.

Yes, but only because it is on the front. Thought it would help against chipping, but alas I have a small one anyway. I am sure the satin alone on the rear emblems would be fine.
