All Mazdas!
I have only seen 1 other B-Spec car being mentioned here on the forum by the builder/owner. Are there others lurking here and just reading? Speak up if you are working on one or already have one built.

I would like to think I'm building one. Problem is a daily my 2. It is half gutted though along with a seat :)

That is a start. You know it is serious when you remove all of the sound deadner from the floors.

I'm wondering this too. I just went through all the World Challenge videos and was very disappointed with the Mazda 2's showing. The track is Mazda's game, but the Fit and 500 were dominating. Very sad....

The Mazda 2s are getting owned in world challenge. In grandam the 2 scored 1 win for the year so far.

From the impressions by a few drivers in the grand am circuit, the consensus is that the fit looses a lot of weight with removal of interior (the trick rear seats weigh in around 300 lbs) has more power and better brakes (not sure if they come standard with 4 discs) I haven't seen much on fiats but a 2 door frame has some advantages structurally, no matter how finite. Knowing all that I'll be damned if I ever step into one though. I wish I could step into the ring as my duty as a mazdaholic to defend our great honor but anything Corksport's name is on gets my vote!

Well from what I've noticed, and this is rather strange for Mazda, is the lack of experienced professionals manning the MZ2 and so few cars in the field. Honda has strong backing along with Ford, although judging by some videos I've watched, the Fiesta is a little outclassed. Maybe it's the drivers, maybe it's the cars, but they seems to be lagging a bit. I watched the Road and Track editor pilot the Mazda and it was great fun watching him drive around the Ford as if it was a pylon.

I watched all the videos on the Grand-Am site and they have ZERO coverage of the BSpec class. Which makes sense since the Grand-Am series has ties with Nascar.

The series is supposed to be for newbies to move into pro racing which might explain the lack of professionals. I wish grand-am would show some of the racing even if it was online.

Yeah, I seem to enjoy World Challenge a heck of a lot more ( aside from the the swarm of Fits ). I wish they wouldn't treat the series as "entry level".

I'm not so sure about that myself. I don't think I want to trade paint with Randy Pobst yet, lol.

Haha yeah.

*Volvo S60-R blasts by at warp speed, blowing my doors off*

"Effing Pobst...."

It feels that way. At a local SCCA event due to another run group only having 3 cars a Panoz GTS, a GT3 Cup Car and a GTU Z car were added to our group. The Porsche was 22 seconds a lap faster than I was. When they would pass you on the straights if felt like I was standing still.

I do some racing in my area, but mostly for fun and not competitive. Theres track near stockton a group of us Mazdas go to. Huge miata followers there.

What track is that? I didn't know there was anything in the area, I might be interested in checking it out sometime.

I get to pound it out this weekend on the track again. Should be fun as there is another SSC/B-Spec car showing up to the party.

Are you running the round at Laguna Seca this September? I'll probably be there, it'd be cool to come out and meet you guys and maybe get some shots during the race.

Oh, gotcha. I just realized that you're just going to be at an event with another B-Spec car this weekend, I thought you were actually running a B-Spec round.

SCCA has the B-Spec under SSC which you can race in any regional or national event. I will be racing in the BFG super tour series Sat and Sun.

I took out a few lbs of weight from the front end last night (it was full and weighed about 4 lbs)

I also had to add a few more decals to the car for the race

Hey Derrick,

$3200???? Wow! Could you break that down a bit. Entry fees, tires, etc?

What is the entry fee for an SCCA race now?

Thanks,
John
