AutoX Season Begins

so that's your new FC eh eric? looks good!

meh, i took it about 80% on the first run and got a 64-ish, and then proceed to hit the most number of cones I've ever hit in 3 years of autocrossing in the next 2 runs (is it still off course if you went way out of the proper line while taking out a whole bunch of cones along with it???) :(

I probably didn't have the tire pressures set up properly, because the car handled in such a totally different manner, that I totally screwed up on several turns because the car didn't respond as I expected it to.

no 4th run for me though, thanks to that whole car-hit-pole-break-pole-take-down-wire fiasco

it was almost as bad as seeing a Porsche T-boning a BMW 5 series at FedEx a couple years ago

back to the drawing board for me... gonna try a different tire pressure setup next time... and maybe have some adjustable strut hawtness to help me out???

Well I had to back out of going. I suck:(. I havent been to my reserve unit in the past two years. Well I had my first drill this weekend so I had to bail. I emailed and told them that I wasnt able to come. Next time, I guess.....

He he - wasn't I your co-passenger on that second run? I must be bad luck ;)

Yeah - your car did seem pretty tail-happy, so a tire pressure re-think might be just what the doctor ordered. But those Toyos still do have an insane level of grip!

And that car-hitting-the-pole thing was weird - considering how far the pole was from any of the racing lines. He must've really, really lost it!

I was also hoping to get in some fun runs to try and improve on my own crappy times, but .. meh. Bill was gonna drive my car and see if he could do better than I did (duh!)

bad luck had nothing to do with it. and I'm complaining because I couldn't turn the car around with my throttle (power oversteer = did not happen :( )

I think it's just the massive grip that the RA1s have that threw me off in terms of how the car can be driven (last time i autoxed the FC i was in some really old 'n bad H-rated touring tires, powerslide heaven lol)

probably gonna try to lower the front tire pressures a bit to even out the grip bias so it's more neutral.

Thanks. Got any more of me? Mind if I post a link to this picture from another forum?

I don't have any other. Due to freezing winds, I could only use the camera in shorts bursts before extremities went numb=p

Link away.

Still no times posted on autocrossers.com. :(

I had been keeping my compressor and tire gauges in the RX-7 due to a slow leak. At some point I took them out, but I forgot this.... Thus, yesterday, I showed up to the 'cross with no compressor or gauge!! We 'crossed on street pressure, and handling was not what I'd hoped. Based on this (wholly insufficient) data, I must say my Miata could run circles around this 7!!

We'll see next time!

Speaking of next time, the MAX-18 MSCW autocross has been rescheduled!

The date is changing from April 25 to April 18!

Unfortunately, this conflicts with the next SCCA event. Fortunately, this could mean less participants and more seat time for those who come to the MSCW event!

This would be a perfect first 'cross for anyone thinking they might want to try it. (hint, hint, Matt)

See ya'll there!

The Salazar-Racing folks are busy trying to find a fair way to place the rankings since the 4th group didn't get all their runs in. I was told they should hopefully have them tallied up and loaded tonight. They're also looking to see if those 4th runs could/would have any affect on rankings.

The max18 reshedule really stinks. I was looking foward to it, but will now have to hold out until Max19 at fredrick since I'm already signed for the SCCA event:(

Lot was double booked. MSCW would only have access to 1/2 of it. I'm sure we'll get more details weds night.

Man that sucks. There's a VMSC event 10 minutes from my house that I'll be attending on the 18th; I was planning on going to MAX-18. Stupid lot.

I can leave the SCCA event early and head to rosecroft I think, but other people may have afternoon shifts. I also think Dan is the SCCA regional tech chief, I'm not sure if he can just head out! This really was a bad call on MSCW's part.

There is a PM session. What time are you guys coming back?

i'd say probably mid-afternoon, but i would be tired from traveling anyway, so no autox for me that weekend :(

Where the hell are the results from last week's race?

Does anyone have pictures of the car vs. pole battle?
