i was just wondering if anyone has autox'ed against a r32 vw yet in ds. if so how does it compare to the msp?

I've gone against two different ones in STX last season. They weren't a problem. I'd be more scared of a 1.8T GTI at the moment. It seems like the R32 may be too heavy, but maybe one has not been properly prepared yet. With just my wheels and tires and swaybar bushings I beat a 2 driver R32 by about 1.5-2 seconds two weeks ago. (39.3 to their mid 40's and 41's) It was a test and tune so we got a bunch of runs too.

That's all kinda relative. They are heavy but they have alot of grunt. The AWD system is mostly front biased (like the Audi TT). I beat an R32 in STX in my GS MP3 and some TypeRs in DS. Not sure about it's competetiveness if preppared properly and driven well. I'd worry about who's driving a particular car rather than the car itself.

i was just wondering because it is actually a friend of mine, our abilities are about the same. he actually almost beat another friend of mine in his own car.. that would suck...(boom05)

they are heavy, but they do have a lot of grunt and no traction problems. and their suspension is worlds better than other golfs/GTIs (no rear torsion beam).

i don't knwo that anyone has prepped one enough that a real judgement can be made. it probably depends on the course...i'd think a momentum course would favor the MSP, and a tighter course would favor the R32 with its greater ability to dig out of corners.

*shrug* run 'em and find out!

80yr old grandmothers don't count. :)

Besides, I've beaten you in your car, so you must be able to sympathize. :p

(drinks) my brother races with me also. (but i won't let him drive my car) i guess i will find out about the r32 on the 7th.. i hope it comes out in my favor.(wrc)

There's a guy in an R32 in DS in my region. Last year was his novice year and he actually went to Nationals and fared pretty well. He's even faster this year! I'd be willing to bet he's gonna trophy at nationals this year.

We just had an autocross today and he was smoking fast. Almost ran as fast as SM.

Ya, beating ppl in thier own car is cool...but sometimes i flip flop...they beat me, but i also beat them...kinda funny, but this year i stepped into Corvette land...it's very fun beating a Z06 when your in a CRX :) But it's pretty damn hard!

(Protege is not ready yet :( )

and as apexlater said, i'd watch out for the driver more than the car.

that must be a bad lil CRX, to be beating SM2 vettes. nice job.

as long as we're in hypothetical autox land... :)

i'm wondering how a 1st gen DX or SE would do in FSP w/ a built BP or FS engine (if you can drop an FS in legally).

not the lightest cars (still probably >2000lbs in SP trim), but CSP miatas are getting 150-160hp out of the BP.

B16, Quaife, AEM, DC, Koni, GC and other goodies :) Driver does most of the work tho ... lol

an FS in a 1st gen would be a waste of time. A built BP would be a much better choice. Think Toda :)

the CRX weighed in at 2066lbs, without driver. Not sure about FSP rules, but SM won't allow that much...wait, not true, SM allows hood/trunk and fender swaps...

I'll find out what a 1st gen with a KL can diddly do in SM whenever i finish this damn swap :)

i figured the BP would be the way to go (thanks, miatas!), but the mid-range tq of the FS is appealing...i'd like to see justin's dyno results when he gets his FSP P5 on there.

2066? come on now- drop some lbs off that lead sled! ;)

ya, for a Kart with doors, it's heavy, but i just co-drive...but it's still just a few 10ths from the almighty Z06's and them tricky little Maitae's :)

You must be referring to Mark Booth, who narrowly missed winning two different National Tour events this year.

A certain Type R driver was very impressed with the way "the bunny car" (Rabbit-descendant) was able to move through the course...

I'm very surprised...usually, the Golf variants are just too heavy and soft to compete in Stock. I figured that the R32 would be the same, but BAM! Mark was sitting in 1st place after Saturday's runs.
