Auto Door Lock Glitch?

It doesnt work if I am on the other side of the vehicle when a passenger door closes. We testedd that before I reqched out here. I feel that Mazda has a shorter FOB range for security reasons when a driver is alone, which I can appreciate. Too bad the range isnt adjustable though. No biggy.
I will try this tomorrow. Not what I expected.

I turned off the auto-lock as soon as I got the car, though I don't have experience of it actually failing to work. I just don't trust the concept.
I'm actually annoyed my Volvo doesn't do this.

To OP.
I just tested mine. No problem.

I closed the door (driver side) and stood by the door.
My daughter opened the passenger side door and closed it while I was standing and waiting.
The Auto-lock beeped to confirm when she closed hers. No issue with my '22.

Two possibilities.
1. one of the sensors inside the doors is faulty.
2. did you put your fob in the same pocket as your cell phone?

Your test does not duplicate my issue although I can see that perhaps if I stood right next to my door and waited for all other doors to close, the signal might be strong enough to reach my FOB, but I don't want to have to do that. If I am close enough to touch the car then I may as well lock it manually which defeats the idea of an auto locking system.

IMO, the system should auto lock, via the ECM, when any last door closes as long as the FOB is not detected inside the vehicle.

My issue is this:

I turn the car off, open my door and get out as everyone else opens their door to get out. If my door doesn't close last, the chime will not sound, and therefore, the doors will not auto lock. Not the same as opening a passenger door and closing it while my driver door has been closed all the while. But it might be similar enough? :)

A faulty specific door sensor is a worthy thought. I need to test for the issue with every door. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. (y)

Sometimes the Mrs is really slow to get out the car. I have to be the last one out and closing my door for the auto lock to be reliable. I disabled it because it's also really annoying when cleaning the car or going in and out a lot.

Indeed, Snake.
AutoLock is more useful when both your hands are busy.
e.g. In a rainy day, one hand with umbrella and the other carrying some stuff....

I mean, nitpicking a little, no? Been auto locking since 2016, how this is so bothersome is beyond me. Especially those of you with the fancy folding mirrors you... can easily tell if your car is locked. And if it's not, there's that handy dandy fob...

Nitpicking, not. My Honda CRV does what I am missing in the Mazda. I reached out here for a better understanding of that which is new (and different) to me. (y)

When you get accustomed to something functioning a certain way and it changes, it's attention getting. I'm an old goat (and I do get grumpy). Change is something that becomes more and more an issue as you age. "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". You'll see when you get there.

It's as simple as that.

OK, not nitpicking. Trying to figure out the feature. I can concede that. Cannot concede that old dogs can't learn new tricks. Not at all. And I'm not that young.

Great, but the CX-5 has a factory security system (engine immobilizer) doesn't it? If the doors are manually locked and the car doesn't beep because some other door is closed last, will the security system engage if the car doesn't beep?
the US models dont come with alarms security system so it doesnt matter. There is the immo which turns on when you shut off the car and the key is not in the car.
