I found a few places online that sell it. It's one of only a handful of beverages I haven't tried. I'm very tempted to order some.

Just wondering how many people have had it before.

I have a bottle on display in my apartment but I'll probably never drink it. The friend of mine that brought it back from Europe has a pretty high tolerance for alcohol and she said two shots of this will put her under :) rule of thumb when importing it is not to go cheap - the cheaper absynthes won't have the same kick as the more expensive bottles at all.

ive heard about that s***. its supposed to be something good. never tried it though im a pussy

I tried it... and WOW... i felt high.. not drunk.... only ona few ounces... but i usually am not a drinker... but it is harsh...

it burns!!!!!!

ow ow oweee

I've had Absinto. It is sold in Portugal and probably elsewhere in Europe. Not sure if it's really absinthe though. You can look it up if you want and check. It's "Absinto". Stuff is really strong and I usually drink it with orange juice, like a screwdriver. You need to have a high tolerance for this. Most people are totally gone after 1 cup but I usually have like 4 or 5 and som other stuff. I have a high threshold for liquor. Once again not sure if it is same stuff, bu you can look it up.

wow... and it is ok to drink straight? Im going to Europe in March, i will get some.

Back in the day this stuff originally had stuff in that could make you go nuts. Now they don't make it like that anymore.

they sell it in australia in most states. they don't have the wormwood in it (the stuff that really ***** you up and can make you go crazy) but if you know the right people you can get it. i never tried it while i was there though, but there were bars that had all different kinds.

as far as comparing it to everclear, it's totally different i think. absinthe i don't believe is a high proof, but for some reason it still ***** you up. that's why it feels different than being drunk. everclear is just high proof, taste terrible, get you drunk stuff that burns your throat.

I do beleive absinto and absinthe are the same thing, just without the halucinagenic wormwood. Yeah, it ***** you up big time but it's wierd cause it isn't really high proof, but still high enough. It also has a really strong taste too. For those of you that need chasers with strong liquor, I don't suggest drinking this. You might mess up your clothes.

i thought it was really funny to see this posted cuz i'm really thinking about getting a bottle for new years. i found a site that sells the real deal (with wormwood) for $210 a bottle. they also sell glasses and spoons. i think it's www.absinth.com. what i found really odd is that they are based out of new york. i thought this stuff was banned in the states. anyways, i've heard enough of it and you will start hallucinating. takes a lot of it before that happens tho. ernest hemmingway and many of the most infulential artist and writers back in the day did their best work while drinking absinthe. it's ****** up stuff but i really want some...still thinking if it's worth $210.

I had some a few years ago. A friend brought it back from Prague. We would take a shot before going out. It always got us wound up for a night out.
Yes it does burn. Reminded me of shine. Not at all like everclear.

I just finished off a bottle that I bought at ABC liquer. It doesn't come with wormwood in it, but there is a place in orlando that sells it and I bought it and added it myself. After I added the wormwood I could barely even drink the stuff. Its crazy.

Absinthe is illegal in the US if it contains wormwood (thujone i believe is the chemical contained in wormwood which is supposed to be toxic)

Typically you should drink it with water and sugar, it takes part of the bitterness away.. look up absinthe spoon, and you will see what I am talking about. It's a slotted spoon that you put sugar cubes on and then pour the water over it to dissolve the cube.

It is different than say everclear because of the effects of the herbs contained in the drink, where everclear is almost pure grain alcohol, you only get an alcohol effect. With absinthe you get the effect of the herbs as well. Typically absinthe is anywhere from 55% to 80% alcohol. If you are going to europe you can find absinthe, but they only contain a small amount of wormwood, not what the traditional recipe calls for, and for the most part contain wormwood oil and not the actually plant. Which, is said to not have the same effect.

The first time ive heard of it was in Eurotrip the movie, been curious ever since.

my sister brought back a bottle from france that i have yet to try, i think it has like half strength of the wormwood in it, not sure though.
