My wife is the keeper of the budget, but she spoils me rotten. If I want something for the car, I send her a link and if it can be done without totally screwing up the budget (sometimes she stretches it to get me what I want) she`ll order it. She loves me. 
She always puts other people first to the point of it being ridiculous. I have to nag her to buy herself stuff.
Last weekend she passed a kidney stone. Was literally in tears with pain and didn`t want to ruin my night by making me drive her to the hospital so was going to drive herself. I`m like, "are you insane? Give me the keys and get in the truck."
She is a keeper for sure.

My wife is awesome but the whole married with kids thing sometimes will get me down anyway. I am a selfish a-hole so sometimes I just want to be alone. I'm happy overall though.
I have trust issues with any woman, but I keep it to myself for the most part. I'll overthink things sometimes and get into a negative thought spiral. But I get over it and the sun shines again. If I let out every negative thought I had we would have been done a long time ago! Some things are better left unsaid.
We keep separate budgets. I direct deposit most of my check to the main account, then a small "allowance" portion to my account (she has access if necessary). That way she doesn't have to get heartburn at what I waste money on. I can save for as long as I need to to buy something expensive.
Will we last? I don't know. The past 7 years have gone by fairly quickly, I don't see why another 7 won't fly by the same.

I Love this Thread. I'm Single now, but the past relationship i was in was a similar to everybody elses. You'r going to **** up your car if you buy that, Blah blah blah, I just bought you a 300 dollar purse. (SOOOO.) What if i buy the camera. (That's Fine if you buy that) ugggggg.
11 years ago when my wifes water broke in our 96 WS6 Trans Am on the way to the hospital for my son's birth I had a strange feeling things where going to change. I had a $40K Top Gas drag bike and a $20K Super Gas drag bike sitting in the garage at home. I had regularly participated in the Prostar /IDBA national race circuit since 1978. My wife actually learned to ride a motorcycle on the Top Gas bike running 9.20 @ 145 mph minus the nitrous.
I thought what more can a guy ask for?
Several months after my son was born I was sitting down to plan out our trip to the Fall nationals with my wife and she looked at me and said "$150 for a new tire, $50 for C16 VP gas, $80 for 8 Nitros bottle refills, $25 for a new set of plugs, $75 for a spare set of clutch plates, $400 for road trip and hotel expenses, $125 for entry fees, lets see, thats $905 for this race with 8 national races a year and say 20 or so local races a year , She then picked my son up and looked at me and said 18 years all expense paid trip, what are your priorities?
Both bikes where sold soon thereafter, the Trans Am was traded for a full size conversion van and until I bought my Speed 3 one year ago I hadnt been any faster than the 92 mph governed speed in that van.
I got to tell you that each man or women needs to set their priorities , when single they can be all over the place, when married they need to be a mutual agreed upon goal, when a family is started the goal will be set by the TRUE NEEDS!
I purchased the Speed 3 because I needed a DD @ 110 miles a day 5 days a week and I needed to get more than the 12 mpg that I was getting with that old van and it needed to have some room. After diligently looking at everything that was available in the $21K range I decided the Speed 3 was a GREAT choice. I thought that I had staid in the realm of priorities directed by the True Needs of my family.
I had asked my wife if she wanted to go test ride in the car before we purchased it just too be sure she would agree and she said no she trusted my judgment!
My wife hadnt ridden in the car until 3 months later and when she did she looked at me and asked what was that strange whistling noise I hear when you shift? I explained how the MSCAI, and the MSCBE (that I had added on at the time of purchase) worked and how it improved the MPG that I got, on the same drive she happened to look at the speedometer (one of her bad habits due to my proclivity to go fast} and she asked why does the speedometer go to 160? and answering her own question she said a man can grow out of being a boy but he cant grow out of a boys toys!
Luckily the car regularly gets 30 mpg in the warmer months and I usually come home from work with a smile on my face and it sure is great to occasionally go over the 92 mph barrier I had endured for such a long time!!
Having said that I would love another 100 HP but I will be content with my DD at least until I get to give the car to my son in 5 years and teach him about how to be a priorities lead HOT RODDER and how to spend his hard earned cash on mods!!

Been married 9 years. Don't have to ask for permission because I choose what project I am doing wisely. I don't just want to mod a car, or both of my Mazdas. I also want to landscape the yard, build a fence, patio, close in the deck, pay for both kids to play soccer two seasons each summer, go on vacations, weekend trips, finish building the shelves in the man cave, buy some acreage for the next house, get a s*** kicker truck like a 06 1500 to haul my purchases from lowes, and trade in the P5 for a CX7 or 3 hatch. That is all within the next two years. I also don't pay for any contractors as I can do it all myself. How much you think that will run? lol
Priorities. We spent 3k on high mileage tuneups on the P5 and her old car a couple months ago. Didn't really know the damage until i put all of the receipts together. Her response? Glad you have a garage.
I have thought about getting a part time second job, at lowes. LOL 10% off is still a discount.

yeah, but that 10% adds up. my wife is a lifer w/ Lowes and some of the $ we save on home repair and improvement helps fund my "passions". and for the most part she understands that i will always have the need for speed even as my physical accessability changes the rules of engagement.( i.e. seriously screwed up spine-60%congenital/40%accident and injury) i can't ride bikes much anymore and i stoped racing alooong time ago so getting back to roots so to speak w/ 4wheels is just an evolution. after 10 years together we still have our issues over $ its just part of the marriage deal. the thing i've learned is you have to have communication and trust. shes keeping a death grip on the purse strings right now but i can't blame her too much 'cause i was recently "downsized" out of my collections job and what i found "for now" to put food on the table is less than half of what i made b-4 and has no bennifits at all and we still have the mortgage, 2 car payments,2kids, a dog and all the yadda yadda to go with. but i know when we get back on our feet all i have to do is talk to her and plan in hand it's a done deal. like the lakes modified bucket i have planned to build w/ my son in a few years so he can appreciate his first car by building it like i didwhen i was his age. it also helps if you show some appreciation to them w/o any provocation like a single rose at the end of a hard days work of an e-mail to lether know that your not a neanderthal and she is important. that kind of stuff gets you the "credit " you'll need when it comes time to rebuild an engine or spring for a bigger turbo. any relationship w/ a woman is like rocks and rose petals- you can throw them both is the air but one is gonna hurt like a b**** when it comes back down.
Wow! Thats exactly what I'm going through now. I used to travel the Prostar circuit racing 600 super sport and the 1 year the did the 1000 xtreme class. Then got married in 07 and bought a house in 08 and my racing greatly slowed down. Then in Oct.08 we had twin girls and I haven't touched my bike since. I did the same to get my Speed 3 told my wife I needed a comuter and she told me get a car I wanted because I spen 2 hours a day in it and she wanted me to be happy with it. She has no problems with me doing any thing to my car or bike. She is great. Its the Kids that are keeping me from anything now. 2 babies are VERY time consuming.

It is time well spent my freind. I think the last 5 or 6 posts have been great. Knowing what you want in life above and beyond a car and making that happen for the better good of the FAMILY, Amen!
With my wife and me, it's all about respect. She respects me enough not to get uptight over my small purchases for the car (or other indulgences), and I respect her enough not to blow large amounts of our money on big purchases without making sure she's cool with it first.
As a principle, it's worked well for us for close to 15 years now; don't sweat the small stuff, and work together on the big stuff.

well i promised my fiance i wouldn't buy anything else before the wedding. she doesn't understand the whole modding thing. so i just made a deal that if i buy something for my car i'd buy something for her or even her car. (saturn sky) although we really need to get a house....
Yeah, I deal with that to some extent also.
Wife and I both have separate "personal" funds that pay for whatever the hell we want. 99% of her's goes to clothes, and that's fine with me. That's her money and she could light it on fire for all I care.

Me and the wife have a good system going... I'll spend x amount of money on whatever, then next time we got the extar money she can spend a simliar amount on her. So every few months I get something for my car or whatever I feel like, and she'll usually go buy some clothes or something. I recently got my RX8 wheels and catch can so now she got a lap top.
yeah, theres even a quote from a country song in here lol, I dont remember who sings the song though, I think It's Blake Shelton tho... but yes, I too have ha to end several relationships due to the women not understanding the MSP is my WIFE.
