Abs???

So, I'm out driving my car (03.5 msp) around and i'm waiting for a call from a frined and im just driving around an industrial park. i go around a right corner and start to go up a slight incline with the right side fo my car whil;e the left stays where it is. i tap the brakes because there is a box truck parked infront of me and when i do so the car makes a noise that reminds me of a loud buzzing. the pedal will only go down about 1/4 of the way while doing this(although i did not force it.) there is no horrific noise outside the car.

The only other time i have felt this before is under really heavy heavy braking where i needed to stop and stop now! i have never felt it ever before. it also happens if i go at the incline mentioned before, at a right angle so im driving up it completely. i only need to be going like 10 mph and it does it.

Any suggestions?

Is there any way to disable abs in our cars if they even have it?

Hard to tell from your description but it sounds like it's just the ABS system. Do you feel the brake pedal vibrating when it happens? If so then it's ABS. It sounds more like a grinding sound than a buzz. When it kicks in has nothing to do with vehicle speed. Mine kicks in the most often when I turn into a parking lot and 1 wheel briefly comes off the ground - does it every time.

And no don't disable the ABS.

ABS works off of individual wheel speeds vs the vehicles actual forward velocity. When one or more wheels goes into too much slip, (i.e. the difference in the speed of that wheel vs. forward velocity is greater then the allowable spec) it will activate ABS so you don't lock up all the wheels, you'll still be able to steer, and you'll stop faster. The problem is with a suspension like ours the inside rear wheel can get light when cornering, or both rears during braking. The ABS sees that wheel in too much slip and will engage ABS (if you hit the brakes). The same can happen if you hit a bump during braking.

In short, you'll get false actiavtions sometimes because there's no way for the computer to know every possible scenero, but it's there for good reason and when you're in a situation that it helps you you'll be grateful you didn't disable it.

yea its abs...what you are feeling is perfectly norma. like he said in the last post when one tire comes off of the ground or almost comes off the ground the abs will kick in on that wheel and its pulsating the brakes up to 15-20 times a second.

and disabling it would be bad cause you will slam on the brake and they will lock up. so you will be better off leaving it on. its not hurting anything and everyone has to deal with it.

my brakes sometimes feel like there's bubbles under my pedal when i brake heavily froma low speed, doesn't necissarily have tp be on a turn but the car just kinda keeps going and ihave to pull off and reapply the brakes. kinda wierd.

Sounds like ABS. I have yet to hit ABS on my MSP, I'll do it deliberately over the next few days (there's a dirt road by our house). In general, I've been very disappointed by ABS, and even more so by TC (Traction Control), but that's based more on the early generation versions. My '91 MR2 Turbo (3-channel) SUCKED. It would kick in too early, do little for braking, and take too long to release. There was some washboard by a light on the way to work, and I knew from previoius experience that not having ABS in that instance would have been better (almost went right into the intersection the first time!). I've tried TC on my in-laws minivan, and in the snow, it SUCKS! Kicks in too early, takes too long to release control back. But I have to say that I haven't tried the latest generations (gen 4 or 5?) on the Mercedes and/or BMWs, and the opinion of people I respect have said some amazing things about them.

I'll leave my ABS connected, as it hasn't been too obtrusive. The only time I've really fealt confortable with disabling ABS is at track events, and I don't expect going to them anytime soon. To disable the MR2's ABS, all I've had to do was remove the ABS fuse (which could throw some check-engine codes), but at least on the '91 MR2 that would also disable the EHPS (power steering), so do at your own risk, I don't know enough about the MSP to say something like that.

I havent driven the new BMW's and stuff in snow. but i have driven them hard in the rain and the tractions control seems quick and responsive. My brothers 04' GTO sucks in teh snow either way but traction control just gets annoying, its always keeping you from pressing the gas pedal down when the wheels start to spin, and on a GTO with a LS1 that puts down gobbs of torque it doesnt take much to spin them up in the snow.
