I need a new battery for my GT AWD CX5. I am replacing the original battery, so this is my first new battery experience.
Should I go with the "Mazda" battery @ my dealer 2yr replacement warranty / 84MO (prorated) warranty $250, includes labor.
If I buy on my own, what brands & specs. should I consider beyond the right type / size for my CX5?
Will I need to "re-set" or lose any existing saved functions with a new install?
I need to replace within the next 5 business days.
I'm the orig. owner of the car. It has 48K miles & I've not had any issues with the original battery.
I live in the Seattle WA area and my car is not garaged. I plan to keep this car for 2 yrs.
Thanks for your recs!

Group 35 is what you're looking for ...

Walmart EverStart Maxx $140

They also have a Weize AGM at Walmart for $135 ... That's a great price !

Costco, Sam's club, Walmart etc will probably install it for free as well.

9 years on your oem battery is amazing 👍 and only 48k miles on your 2016.5 is a gem of a car. That'll make a VERY NICE hand-me-down to a kid or niece/nephew/family member/friend etc when you're done with it. Best year CX5 made fo sho! 😁

Any AGM battery that has the correct rating.

Personally I buy batteries from AutoZone. I buy their DieHard AMG batteries. AMG batteries last longer and do leak acid on your battery connectors and car. They are more vibration resistant and don't need water added. Clean, corrosion free battery connects are important on cars these days with all the electronics.

AutoZone warranty is REPLACEMENT, not prorated. They replace the battery, no questions. They have different price points but its the same exact battery. You pay for longer warranty as the price goes up.

In my area there seems to be an AutoZone on every corner. So if it goes out, I can pull into a store and they warrant the battery. So far I've not used their warranty...

If the store will put a jump box on the battery connectors and carefully remove them, then you won't lose your settings. It adds to the complexity but it works. The chains are more about slapping the battery in and slamming the hood.

I've taken the tools from the "tech" at these stores before and bring my own and asked them to step back so I can install the battery...:p

I'm still on the original battery in my 2016.5 as well. It's still going strong and has not shown any signs of slowing down, yet.

I just turned 40k miles the other day. I suppose that it's time for a new battery and a fluid exchange in the trans. Too hot though, maybe this fall.

I'll second all of the above recommendations for the Walmart Everstart Maxx. Much better price for a lead-acid than the auto parts stores. My Costco won't even remove the old battery and install the one they just sold you. I said to them" what about if some little old lady needs a battery". The answer was for her to get someone to do the swap. Screw that. I went to Walmart who at least does the installation and has been good to deal with for other things. I needed a battery NOW and was in and out within an hour on a Saturday. Besides, I've been reading about the Interstate that Costco sells does not have the reliability of the older Interstate batteries. Maybe something has changed. And the price difference between Walmart and Costco was negligible. Just my experience.

Thanks for all the recs! I went with walmart Everstart Maxx they installed today.
I have noticed some of my settings went awry or back to factory setting: headlights; auto setting, my dash lights now dim to darkness when headlights are turned on...and likely other stuff I haven't noticed yet. I'll review the manual, since it's been 8 yrs ...LOL to see if I can fig those out. Feeling I don't know what I DK until I need something.🤷‍♀️
My auto up/down driver window (as noted by others) doesn't function and after following directions, still doesn't work.
Hopefully the safety features are still working.
I'll check back if I cant fig. things out.
Thanks again everyone!
So appreciative of this forum and yr knowledge sharing! Pls Stay Human! ☺️

I went to Walmart, got a the everstart platinum agm type group 35. Has a 4 year warranty. $179 last summer. Batteries are all made by the same handful of manufacturers like Johnson Controls. Longest warranty I could find. Works fine.

RE: age..Battery life; I know I rechecked my maintenance rcpts to be sure! It's why i initially asked if I should go w/a maza battery. miles; I work from home so no commute & COVID played a part in low miles too. I've been very happy with this rig., first MAZDA.
