Lexus will give its BMW 3 Series-fighting IS model new sheetmetal and an all-new drivetrain for 2006. Lexus rolled out the second-generation sedan at the Geneva motor show, revealing details of a non-U.S.-market 2.2-liter diesel powerplant, but keeping information on the U.S.-bound 2.5-liter V6 gasoline engine under wraps until the cars late-March North American debut in New York.
Sources indicate the IS 250s V6 will produce about 205 hp compared with the current cars 3.0-liter 215-hp inline six. In New York, Lexus also will announce a 3.5-liter 245-hp V6, but so far there is no indication of a production version of the V8 under the hood of the IS concept LF-C that debuted at last years show. IS 250 styling reflects the LF-C concept, although Lexus isnt likely to offer an IS in the LF-Cs coupe body style.
