$150 ticket for "squealing tires" and illegal tint-List b**** tickets here

Contrary to popular belief, we DO NOT make money from the tickets. Yes, the city gets a small percentage, but the fine is usually small and the court costs is what kills you. Example: speeding fine, $25 - court costs , $75. Education Dept gets the money from the fine, the county gets the money from the court costs. There are no quotas either.... it's against the law to actually require law enforcement officers to net a certain $$$ or number amount of tickets in this state. And if my salary gets paid by tax dollars, I'd like a raise if thats not asking for too much. lol

And nope.. havent caught a murderer or made a drug bust that netted $1 million yet. I just love shows like CSI, Court TV and COPS. lol
No quotas? No offence but I find that very difficult to believe. There is a noticeable increase of people being pulled over the last week of the month, every month. Maybe your jurisdiction doesn't have quotas but I'd bet lots do.

Whenever I get a ticket (usually something BS about about once every 2 years), I consider it my yearly contribution towards law enforcement. If I get no tickets that year, I make a 'real' contribution. Luckily none of my tickets were moving violations so I'm still pretty good with insurance.

I've only been with the city 3 years, but I havent had any tickets since I was 19. I'm 30 now and it's been a better part of 11 years with no tickets. My insurance is only $50 a month with full coverage/towing/rentals/uninsured motorist, etc.

When I lived in Miami, there was a cop on just about every corner, and the only experience I ever really had with the police there, was anytime some jackass hit me from behind or I was a witness to an accident. Of course there were a few times when my house got burglarized, my mom got held up at gun point in the driveway, had a motor vehicle stolen, assaults, drunk and disorderly in public.... and a few others. lol But tickets???? Must be the teenage guy thing? Dont know. But our officers just dont go pulling people over for s**** and giggles if you're doing nothing wrong. Why waste our time unless you're acting like a jackass or endangering the general public? I know I DONT like court dates and wasting my time on something unless I really feel the need to. I like doing what I have to do and going home at the end of the day. Alot of assaults on officers usually take place during a routine traffic stop, so why risk my life for a lousy ticket for someone that's only going 5 - 10 miles over the speed limit? Aint worth it.

A piece of our law here in reference to the quota thing:

The state shall not make or permit to be made, any order, rule or regulation requiring the issuance of any minimum number of traffic citations, or ticket quotas, by any law enforcement or State Highway Patrol.

As far as offenses,... here's a small list of what can be cited and assessed points:
passing a stopped school bus
reckless driving
hit and run, property damage only
following too closely
driving on wrong side of road
illegal passing
running through stop sign
speeding in excess of 55 miles ph
failing to yield right of way
running a red light
no drivers license or an expired license
failure to stop for siren
driving through a safety zone
no liability insurance
failure to report an accident where a report is needed
speeding in a school zone
failure to restrain a child in a restraint or child seat
all other moving violations (catch all)
littering when driving a vehicle
possession of an open container by driver or passenger while driving
speed exibition

No points accessed, but fines imposed:
overloads/length/width/height
illegal parking
carrying a concealed weapon
improper plates
improper registration
improper muffler
improper display of license plate
unlawful display of emblems and insignia
failure to display current inspection certificate

and the list goes on... these are just the most ticketed. I dont have all night to type them all. But most of you get the idea.

In Texas you can get a 1000$ dollar Misdemeanor B charge for peeling out / doing donuts. Abuse of Excelleration.
Correct. In Texas, any "exhibition of acceleration" (chirping, squealing, etc) / "drag racing" or related offense is now a Class B misdemeanor. Having a previous conviction or if you were drunk, they make it a class A misdemeanor. A third degree felony is on your record should you cause bodily injury during your stupidness. Your license will also be suspended for a year. They then add points to your record causing you to pay fees every year to the DPS.

In the end, is a full two seconds of chirping or a few seconds of racing worth it?

I'll pass.

ANd if I hear of one more moron blaming their ticket on a "quota", I'll shoot them myself and risk the jail time; should anybody actually miss their dumb ass.

Harassment or "piss off" tickets are given to those that do just that..

If that makes no sense to you, you're one of those people.

It's amazing to have a police officer outlook in an area where so many people have miscontrued views/opinions because of their hobby/life/etc.

If you're as responsible as you make yourself out to be when it comes to driving, learn the local laws inside and out. NOT to cite when you get pulled over, because that WILL piss the officer off, but to know so you do NOT get pulled over in the first place.

Damn thats a long run on sentence and I only understood half of what you said. He probably found you somewhat entertaining, just not humorous. And when you made eye contact, he probably thought you were gay. lol jk

I'll be waiting for your "**** THE COPS>> STUPID PIGS STEREOTYPED ME NLYKEPULLEDZ ME OVERAZZZ!@#!" thread.

Yea I don't think I would make eye contact with a cop while I was "testing" him. Maybe while looking at him, I can take a sip out of my IBC root beer bottle too. (beer)
I will say that, since I hate getting pulled over by cops; I do not want to give them a reason. Wishing I hadn't this past weekend...sometimes you just don't even realize what you are doing. I think everyone can relate to this.

Yeah, almost everytime I got pulled over I'm like, "HUH?!!? Oh s***, I'm doing 65?!? Crap the car stinks like dope....AND I have my twin glocks on me?!?! oh s***!"
Another thing...MANY people ask me why I "sqeal my tires" all the time... To this I say, "What the **** do you mean, sir? I almost never squeal my tires!!"

Well they were all refering to my TURKEY!!!

No dude, no joke....most people (even fairly experienced car types) have NO CLUE what the hell the turkey is. Most people assume that there is something wrong with my car or think that it is some kind of tire noise....swear to god!!! Please refer to Jersey's sig comment about stupid people!;) there sure are a lot out there!!!

If you think I was referring to your "turkey" comment, I'll take that as a "he wasn't kidding".

Wow.

you dont need a lawyer. The same thing happend to me. just show up in court and since there is no jailtime tell the judge about the turkey. You dont even need a lawyer. Like i said i got a ticket for recless the cop said i squiled my tires byt i was only at 35 mph. he swore that my turkey was my tires.

Improper insignia is just that. Say you get pulled over and your changed your insignia to "Ford" and replaced Protege with "Focus". It's pretty much like that. If you're driving around a Honda, you're not going to put "John Deer" in place of the "H" are you? lol

As far as going to court with the excuse of the turkey, bring a recording of it to prove it. No one is even going to even know what you mean when you stand there in court, plead the 5th, and the judge thinks you actually have a turkey stuffed inside your engine bay that squaks at every car it passes. He may throw you in jail for animal cruelty. lol

So there is a law against rice ;)

But what about replacing Protege5 with 323F or putting a Mazdaspeed badge on an ES that has a Sport muffler? And what about shaved emblems? Do you need something on your car to identify the model? Is this law in all states?
