03 MSP Trans in 02 P5

Just messed up my trans last night and was wondering if a 2003 Mazdaspeed protege manual transmission will bolt up to my 2002 Mazda protege5 manual transmission. Like a direct swap.

Doesn't sound like's he's sourced one yet. Just asking if it will be a direct swap, which as you said it is.

Didn't get one yet gunna do some searching for but definately will try to get the 03 MSP trans now. If any one knows of one let me know please.

I'm going to be looking for one to swap in next spring, as well. Post back if you find somewhere with a stock of them...

If your p5 doesn't have abs you'll have to swap in the pink speedo gear from your old differential. May want to weld the lsd case too while its out eventhough an na p5 could probably not break it...

Hey, ? for you: I take it by your comment that you had the speedo gear installed in an MSP tranny? Or did you install an lsd into your tranny? How much did the speedo gear install run you, if you did this??

I did it myself but it would be close to $400 since they have to open the tranny obviously... press off bearing and put in new one or replace old one if not damaged and check clearances. I have an 03 reg pro tranny with (also no abs) with welded msp lsd and par 1-4.

It's the same little pink gear on the msp diff too?

I'm pretty sure all msp's came with abs so they don't have it... speedo runs off of the abs sensor. The inside of the speedo gear needs to be dremeled a bit to fit the msp lsd.

Considering the only difference is the differential, you mine as well rebuild your current tranny and find a welded MSP diff or get an aftermarket limited slip diff for it.
