Berty's Cosmo

I do worry about the radiator and wished it was multipass unit. I'm going to talk to Griffin Racing about getting custom radiator with multipass. I have a spare one from my front clip that I'm thinking about sending in. Anyone else interested??

Just reading through & thought it worth commenting on the 1.3bar radiator cap.

Beware

That's a lot of pressure for the 18 year old plastic top tank to handle. It's the top tank that always goes on these cars & for this reason alone my cap is a 1.0bar version. Would rather the radiator dump excess pressure/steam than keep it in & stress out the plastic to breakage.

Your call, just my 10c worth

^^ I agree.. I changed from 1.3 to 0.9. Seems like its ok with 0.9 cap.

Another point I would like to make is that oil temp is more important than coolant temp. I'm going to install an oil temp sensor on my Cosmo later on (oil pedestal type).. I know this as I blew my coolant seal on my FD and drove over 100 miles while my coolant temp read beyond PowerFC reading (125+C) and just watched my oil temp.. When the engine was broken down, no warping or any damage from high coolant temp... I thought I share that with you :)

Thanks for the pointer. It might be time to grab one of those aftermarket radiators now then.

(werd)...I've heard from my Mazda Dealer Friend that those plastic tanks on the stock radiator are prone to cracking...In fact, I know of a 20B Cosmo that fried the engine because the lower tank on the stock radiator blew...:(

Interesting...I've got the Defi Multi-Link Display hooked up to oil & water temp sensors and I'm always keeping an eye on it...So far I've never seen the oil or water temp over 115*C even in traffic but man does the temp rise in traffic...Fortunately, the stock Cosmo cooling system is quite responsive to the even the slightest amount of air flow...As long as your moving...The 20B is happy...:)

I plan on taking the Cosmo for a few days to the country side soon and it's another HOT summer...Temps should be fine but rest assured I'll be keepin' an eye on them...;)

I know I'm going to fell a lot better when I've got a high quality welded aluminum radiator under the hood and I'm sure the 20B is going to appreciate the upgrade! :D

Busy weekend....

I got the rear wheels for the Cosmo and my mate and I got to work on making them squeeze under the guards. The rears are SSR Gartmaiers in 18 x 10 with a 32 offset. These are an aluminum 3 piece wheel with 265 tread on them. (thumb)

I sold the FD3S wheels so the stockies went back on for a day. Here is before...

...and after!

We spent Saturday afternoon rolling the guards (although my mate did most of the work).

I think that we rolled them out about 2cm. With the current camber and castor settings they can tuck in under the car when needed.

I took it out for a spin and it is great to have traction again, but also good to see that the 20B can also toast 10 inch wide tyres when it wants to. (cabpatch)

We also got bored and decided to put the rear strut brace in. Only very minor mods where needed to make it fit. Also, seeing as how the ECCS is not working, I took out most of that and wired in a new head unit. Dave is sorting me out with some parts so I can cover the gaping hole that removing the air cleaner left.

The combination of front and rear bracing, plus coil-overs has transformed the car. Now I only have the under-body bracing and swaybars to go.

We also attempted to fit my FC3S brakes but found out that it was a no-go in terms of rotor clearance. Time to grab some FD3S items and RX8 rotors.

All in all a very fruitful weekend. Now its time to wait for the front rims to arrive.

Great to see the Cosmo sitting on decent rubber.

As clothes makes the man. Wheels maketh the car.

Did you get a front strut brace aswell....?

That gapping hole in the rear may have to stay there a little longer dude. Have to apologize that I didn't get a chance to get up to the container where I store all the parts (45-min from home). I'll attempt to get there during the week mate if I can finish work early enough.

Hi Dave, I have the Carbing brace in the front as well. I was hoping to get the triangle brace for it, but it appears as if they don't make them any more.

No problem with the parcel shelf thing - the Cosmo will be sitting around for the next few weeks awaiting tuning.

What under brace is available for the Cosmo?? I know AutoEXE used to make it but when I contacted them, they said they no longer makes them.

Nice Cosmo :)

I'm also interested in those braces.

My Cosmo has those coilovers (I think, they are custom made in a batch) and it handles great around Wakefield park :)

So thats like 5 people that want a set of those Cosmo braces? I'm sure that would be worth the manufacturers time!

When i bought mine they where still in the original boxes with all of the documentation, stickers... everything like new.

In regards to the under-body braces, I can ask to see how much they would be if they where made in bulk. It would mean that my Cosmo though would be off the road for a while... (boom07)

Berty,

Do you have pictures of your underbrace?? If its fairly reasonable, I'm interested in a set.

Thanks!

No, but I can get some. If other people are serious about getting them I can see what type of price the guy will do.

are you happy with the ganador mirrors?
they fold and work electronically?
any more pix somewhere?
a truck reversed into me today.

very happy with the Ganador's. They don't fold like the factory ones but then again then don't have too because of how small they are.

The mirror itself though moves electronically. It is about a 20min installation... very easy to do.

I'll get you some better pictures of them. They really change the stance of the car once they are on. Mine have got blue tinted glass also. :)

Sorry to hear about the accident... are you and the car alright?

awesome blue tint sounds good. I'm quite set on them. was unsure if they would fold. o-well

i got quoted $300 for one new cosmo mirror. so i can get 2 ganadors for the same price im sure insurance shouldn't mind. i'll even put money towards it.
people that have never seen the car before would think they are standard. they actually flow well. on other cars it wouldn't even look good.

I'm fine wasn't in the car nor' did i park it where it got run into.was getting my ac fixed at an auto-electrician.
it broke the driver side mirror. and some scrapes. just barely dented. i'm glad it just missed the wheel well as that would have been hard to make look rite again.
the paints expensive...roughly $2300 just for that

Sucks to hear a Cosmo got backed in to!

Of all the cars to back into there are plenty of other options that would be much nicer for everyone!
