Question about WGA

Okay so, i've had 2 wastegate actuators go bad on me, by leaking, through what i figured was a torn diaphragm. Now i don't know much about the mechanics of a wastegate actuator, but i would figure if its got a diaphragm, it doesn't need a spring in there... i ordered the forge motorsport replacement this time instead of the ATP unit, and one of its selling points is the ability to replace the springs for different boost levels.... so does that mean the forge has no diaphragm in it, and is just a piston-type design?? I would hope so, because that seems as though it would be a far superior design given the luck i've had with the others.

Here are the pics of my Forge WGA. I took it apart for another thread...i'm trying to figure out how to keep my boost around 5-6psi

no, i've got an upgraded turbo coming...from what i understand, the Forge unit comes set at 8psi...i want to be a little lower...i'll have t28 internals on my t25, so i don't want to over do it...there's another thread on here about this.

ah, gotcha. I can't tell from the pics what the blue stuff is.... is that just material to hold the spring, or does that serve some other function, can you tell??

it feels like some kind of hard plastic. i think it's there to just hold the spring in place. the entire aluminum part that the spring sits in you see in the pics moves. there are rubber o rings and grease (you can see in the first pic) that allows it to move...i guess the blue plastic it to keep the spring from scratching or damaging anything.

sweet, so no diaphragms, that sounds like a definite plus. Thanks for the pics and info man!

my WGA just went bad after 106000 miles, do you think it would be safe to run the forge WGA w/o any engine management on an msp with upgraded SMIC, AEM intake, and a custom 2.5 inch catback exhaust with the pre-cat removed?
