New owner (maybe?) + Recall Notice!?

I'll scan and post the work order tomorrow. It mentioned removing the bolt. I'll have to look again if sealant was listed... IIRC it was.

Originally when I bought my CX-5 and was given the "1st" free oil change I asked if they would simply give me the moly oil change kit for free. Parts department claimed they couldn't so I just bought it from dealer. I didn't feel like pushing the issue that day.

No.. didn't do free oil change.... very friendly and courteous dealer visit though. I'll have to review my dash-cam footage. I left it in the car during visit. Probably won't show much but curious nonetheless.

My VIN doesn't show up as needed a recall. I use safecar.gov for the fleet cars at work. I have a 16.5 though.

Has anyone with a non-recalled '13 or early '14 looked to see if bolt is already gone?

Perhaps the fix is effectively already in place in those models and mid '14 change was the inclusion of the bolt along the way? A fix for a rattle? Just speculation quick to dismiss if bolt is present on these early models....

Using a flashlight one can see this spot from the rear at ground level when near the exhaust pipe.

Is there a picture showing the bolt or the missing bolt? I guess I read deferent reports of this recall performed by the Mazda dealers. Could you take a picture of the area on your CX-5 affected by the recall?

Yours may have been before the stop-sale was announced and repaired before purchase. My dealer told me to await a letter from Mazda, but I have yet to receive any sort of recall notification. My VIN is on the safecar.gov site.

Recall letters are often timed to ensure supply of the fix is available.

On my 2013 the fuel filler neck is not exposed by laying on the ground and looking up from the rear of the vehicle. There is no gap anywhere to see into the filler neck area.

It's actually the bolt about 4 to 5 inches up from bottom bend before it goes to the tank. Not up in the filler area.

I fixed orientation of the picture I took. Left rear shock is on left.

Appears to be above #11 in schematic which seems to be the same among all model years I have seen.

Finally received my recall notice. So I should budget about an hour for the work to be done?

I found it now. It appears to be on the fuel filler tube/neck:

I guess mine is safe, no recall.

Mike! Thanks for getting a pic... I scoured Google Images and Bing for an hour today trying to find something...

It's hard to tell from MikeM.'s picture. But if the bolt is there for non-recalling model years, I believe your guess of making changes of this bolt along the way in 2014 MY to fix something should be correct. The other way to find out is to go to Mazda dealer and check out these newer 2016.5 CX-5's.

I'm also kind of suspicious what is this recall fix about and why they remove this particular bolt, if this bolt indeed exists on other non-recalling CX-5's.

We haven't received recall notice yet and I'll stay put not trying to do the recall fix yet.

Mike: I'll try to get in and take picture from same angle you did tomorrow... out of town in different vehicle right now.
