The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Do they come with tires? And if so...are the by any chance all season or winter tires with lots of tread? lol

well i would include all season tires, the tires are worn a bit unevenly and the insides of the tires are fairly worn, but the middle and outside of the tread is still pretty good...

i found a set of OZ wheels for sale locally and i really just want to sell these quickly to have some extra dough to get the OZ's

it won't give you a LOT more power but it will maximize what you can get with bolt ons, and as Wes mentioned make you engine last longer. They're a pain to tune at first but will be easy after it's done. Sahlen's gave me the name of a very good tunner since a Sport 1000 is in my future, don't think it'll be cheap though. Let me know if you want his info.

I use to tune the old Haltechs, specifically the E6 and E10. This tunning software is way different but much better (and windows friendly!), you can learn how to tweak it for winter and other altitude locations should you decide to drive hard in other states.

don't need it yet, but i'll be sure to let you know if i do. a used E6 might be more budget friendly for me so i'll look into those aswell

Ah, I'm pretty sure the Sprint 500 is technically a piggyback (similar to AEM F/IC). Does RX7Store not deal in Haltech products? I know they have to ability to tune them and they should be pretty close to you. I think they actually prefer Microtech's though...

EDIT: Just checked and I'm wrong, it is a standalone. I was thinking of the Interceptor.

my next question was gonna be about the interceptor, since i'm just gonna be bolt-ons would that be a better way to go? I think my biggest question would be about installing it and how to get it to the tuner, would it have to be towed? would it be better to have the shop install it? i assume i can't plug it in and drive it to the shop

I would advise against the interceptor, don't really like two things trying to control the engine. And you would be able to drive it once it's connected, it won't be plug and play though, some splicing will be required. I don't know if your ECU also has closed and open loop, if so then the interceptor would only kick in during open loop.

just bought a mazdaspeed acc. clutch, ms acc. flywheel and new throwout bearing woot woot

i can finally tear into the right pedal again (once its installed of course)

Dang. Well I'm in need of tires for the winter because the Goodyear Eagle GT A/S tires on the RX-8 wheels are about 4/32". My intention was to use these in the winter, but I didn't factor in the fact that I drive like 2k miles a month :( Also I didn't factor in the PA Mountain Run or Mohican Fun Run LOL. I'm looking at winter tires for the stock MS3 wheels. I don't have 600-800 to drop on brand new winter tires though. I'm also having a very hard time finding tires on Craigslist. Not a lot out there for 18" wheels. Also, I found two different Ads for Blizzaks...except both are only 2 tires each. The one ad has (2) 225/40/18 and the other has (2) 215/45/18 tires. Is there anything wrong with running 2 different sized tires? Obviously I would put the matching 2 in front and the other matching 2 in the rear. If there were no issues with this, it would only cost me about $240 total. One set has 75% tread and the other has 50% left.

i would just do that then... snow tires are way better than all seasons

Ya that's what everyone is telling me. I just want to make sure the different sizes won't affect anything. Worst case scenario, the only thing I can think of that would change is possibly a slight change in the speedometer's accuracy.

as long as you put the 215/45/18s in the front and the 225/40/18s in the rear or vice versa you shouldnt have any issues

Sweet...thanks!

Now...where to get the tires mounted? LOL

I don't know if I trust them...but the cheapest I've seen for Mounting and Balancing is $10 each at Walmart http://www.walmart.com/cp/Tires-Services/495845
My friend has a place that does it for $25 each, but I'm not sure if there's any extra cost with TPMS.

Anyone know of a local (NE Ohio) place that mounts and balances for a reasonable price?

Monroe did mine for $18 each, no TPMS. The dealer use to do them for the same price. And regarding the tires, you should be fine as long as they match, and wider is not better for the winter, you want the opposite

yeah but for 240 for all 4 you cant be upset if they are a lil wider

I was just telling Levi about Leipolds up the street from my place. I know it's not close to you but they do a good job and I would highly recommend them. And I don't see anything wrong with running two different sized tires, especially for the winter and since with the sizes you listed they would be pretty comparable to each other with sidewall and width.

Check out how narrow the WRC tires are for snow stages. This will be Evan in the winter. Bwaaahbwaaaaahh!

And Yay for the Spicy being home! Even I missed that car...

Ya I'm lucky I even found tires that fit my wheels lol. I saw a lot of winter tires that were 245-255 wide...which will definitely not fit a 7" wide wheel lol. They would barely fit the RX8 wheels, but like you said, wider isn't better. Plus the RX8's are for summer :)

How much is it at Leipolds for all 4 with TPMS? You are actually not that far away from me. With the amount I drive...IMO, far is 2 hours away HAHA!! Plus...I work in Akron so I drive past your neck of the woods on my way home from work.

I want to say the mount/balance my Enkeis for $18 a piece (without TPMS, obviously) but I'm not positive. Give them a call at 330-688-1208. They're in Stow just north of my house on 91.

Hmm...that picture looks like fun, but something tells me I have a few more mods to do before I can do that HAHA...just a few

evan (mr lewis) haha

i know you said something about next weekend not being good for you and i forget why....but do you think there would be any way we could set up a weekend in the very near future to put my new clutch and flywheel in my car? mine is actually hindering me from driving the car like she wants to be driven (starts slipping now without giving it full throttle) and i should have my new one sometime next week
