spark plug boots

the tiny rubber piece at the bottom that fits over the spark plug didn't come up with the rest of the boot.

can I just put the old boot onto the new ignition coil or do I really have to replace the entire unit?.

pictures would help, but I think you can just use your old boot. You should just fish that bad boy out just to be safe though.

I'm not positive but you may be able to seperate the wire from the coil pack, if not replace them both, it is common for them to cause problems.

You'll have to dig that boot out with needle nose pliers - don't risk reusing it, because it may already be damaged and could cause spark plug arcing.

O'Reilly's has the spark plug boots (includes the plastic tube and the rubber boot on the end) for about $10 each. You just pop the old one off of the ignition coil (don't lose the spring), and pop the new one on.

You will need 'special long reach' needle nose pliers. Mine are like 8" long... I bought them for this very task....

+1 on the coil. With the rubber, those new boots will come with the rubber fitting on the end.

How long ago was this? They're like $30 each at Autozone now for the whole coil assembly.

In my case, I had just changed my coils about 15k miles previously when my boot ripped. Much more economical to just get the replacement boot.

still idling rough...CEL stays on and every 2 mins or so it flashes a couple of times :S
running out of options.

changed the plugs, 2 ignition coils and cleaned the egr valve. I still haven't gotten my hands on the other 2 spark plug cables. does it matter if they are a different brand/make then the coils?

The coils are around 30.00, but the coil boots are not warranty. If you buy new boots they are covered with lifetime warranty.

everything sorted out! idling normal again (until next problem of course!)
changed the remaining 2 cables for the spark plugs and that resolved the issue =)
