The New Nissan Silvia? FR Compact Sports Concept

i see these pics and hear the rumors and feel like the character Alex in the movie Grandma's Boy when he takes a Laura Craft "action figure" into the bathroom!

oh, the 2011 year models from Toyota/Subaru and Nissan. YAY us!

They just need to re-release the S15 in america(since we never got it in the first place) and I would be happy. Japan and the rest of the world can have the new one.

You want Nissan to start building a car that is a 10 year old design for the US market? It will never happen. But it would cool if it did.

I know it wouldn't happen but after seeing a few in person the S15 became my fav even over the R34's and Evo 4,5, and 6.

More renders from Japan of the Nissan FR coupe

Affordable rear-wheel drive performance looks set to make a comeback, as both Nissan and Toyota are planning small, sporty coupes that should stack up rather nicely in performance and price. Another player comes from Korea in the form of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which is set to do battle with the Mustang until the other Japanese players show up (assuming they make it to the U.S. market). We expect both the Toyota and the Nissan to use four cylinder engines, with manual transmissions sending power to the rear wheels. Reports indicate that the Nissan may use a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit putting out somewhere north of 200-horsepower, but less than 250. That would leave the 370Z to do battle at a slightly higher performance plateau and should allow Nissan to keep the price comparatively low, though we believe that both Nissan coupes could be based on the same platform. We should know more soon enough, as previous reports peg the new FR coupe to debut sometime in 2010. There's one more rendering after the break.

So it's more like the Genesis copied the Nissan coupes. =)

At least if you pick one over the other, you're not compromising much on looks, you only have to pick your performance numbers.

I hate the wheels on the rendering though. =)

i truly hope that the final design resemble the silvia or 240 more than what's being leaked. in any case, i'm f'ing stoked for this thing! 12 years since a nissan w/ a backseat! (butthump)

12 years? Try 10 instead. The S14 ended production in 1998.

Yes, Again: Nissan rumored to be reviving 240SX, bringing it to the U.S.

issan's plans to revive the 240SX (Silvia in JDM parlance) has almost become a running joke, right up there with the fake moon landing and Tom Cruise's heterosexuality. But still, this old chestnut carries forth, with a new report from Insideline's editor in Japan who says the coupe's revival is due to hit the market sometime in 2011 or 2012.

Details, per usual, are both scarce and obvious. The next-generation Silvia will supposedly be built atop Nissan's popular FM platform (370Z, Infiniti G, etc.), come in a 2+2 seating configuration and tip the scales around 2,800 pounds. Naturally, as the S15's successor, it will be a front-engine, rear-drive setup, and is rumored to be packing a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline-four putting out around 200 horsepower. A naturally aspirated variant will also be available to keep the cost of entry low, but the turbo'd model is obviously the pick of the litter and should deliver a 0-60 time of between six and seven seconds.

IL's man in Japan points to the Nissan Foria concept (shown above) as the stylistic inspiration, but notes that the coupe would only be "loosely based" on the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show concept. Judging by Nissan's recent design endeavors, we doubt the Foria -- or as previously rumored, the Urge concept -- will be a heavy influence on this supposed Silvia revival.

Although we're all for more budget-oriented FR sports cars, the popularity of the Toyota FT-86 is sure to be a factor in Nissan's decision to bring the 240SX back to life. That, coupled with the unknown demand for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe (Hyundai doesn't break out Genesis Sedan from Coupe sales in its monthly reports) makes the proposition of a new 2+2 from Nissan even more hazy. So until we hear something solid from Ghosn and Company, we'll resume our normal respiration routine.
