gt28rs

Jdmsam just got in 1000cc injectors for proteges. You should hit him up since he's gone through a few different set ups.

im not even sure if my EMS will handle anything higher then 440s, may have to keep it on low boost for now. whats max gt28rs can go wtih 440s? and can the Splitl Second FTC handle more then 440 injectors?

Yeah there would be no need to have 1000cc. You would never need anything bigger than 650s. You can make lot of good power with 440s.

Thats a tough call. approx 18psi is the max eff of the potato. I'd say that youd be close with the 440s depending on your car, conditions, outside temps, engine temps, elevation, your intercooler setup etc.

With 440s you can definitely play ball with the 28rs. I'd get a good tune and see where you are at with your AFs and calculate the duty cycle of the injectors.

so i just recieved news that someone said the 565ccs work with the SSFTC, and they backed their claim by saying there are some maps in the library with 565, well to my bewilderment, there is! i checked the "attachments" button and scrolled through the vast list of maps available to download and saw one entitled "565cc summer"! so i should be able to max the disco potato with the 565cc for sure then if you said it came close with the 440s?

Well I'd say you'd be safe with the 565s. I'd do 440s and see where you are at but that's just me

nah i found a set of 565cc injectors for 175 shipped, not a bad deal at all! plus i can always keep boost down but to turn it up id have needed bigger injectors anyway

I'm with ya. I just don't know how well the afc is going to control those big injectors. Just because there is a map doesn't mean it will actually work, I'd get a aem fic for something that big

well, we will find out! hahaha. not too concerned if they dont work, i can always sell them at a non profit price and go from there. or i can just swap EMS again

search my old post
i have posted a ton of info with pics

we actually were able to mount the gt28rs with stock everything including plastic pipes. it was a temp fix untill the rest of my parts came in

So all stock oil and coolant lines swap over to the disco no problem? Then u upgraded to ss lines?

Yeah oil and coolant lines swap over. The coolant lines need to be bent a tiny bit. I switched over to ss lines though. Much nicer.

some coolant lines need to be bent behind turbo, also as a HUGE disclaimer for EVERYONE TRYING THIS:
BE PREPARED TO REROUTE YOUR IC PIPING. i have perrin IC and IC piping, and i had to cut my hot pipe and extend it about 1.5-2 inches with a 3 inch coupler!

So then its best to get some steel lines so it doesn't interfere with the IC piping? I will have turbolife fmic

When I installed my gt28rs, I didn't have to modify anything and I have the same exact piping as the Perrin. Likewise, when I swapped back to the stock turbo, I didn't have to modify anything once again. It's a direct replacement, period.

well my hot pipe was slightly off on my gt28rs, may be the way its clocked, or how the FMIC is installed, idk.

so ive been getting oil in my IC pipes lately and HKPRO claims i may need a restrictor. any input? I googled "gr28rs mazdaspeed protege oil restrictor" and got a lot of mixed answers.

Garrett ball bearing turbochargers do not need a restrictor. They have one built in. Oil leaks mostly come from engine problems. Most likely your air filter is not flowing enough, due to lack of maintenance or just not capable of allowing enough air to pass.

Most everyone I have talked to over the years of managing a turbocharger shop think it the seals leaking oil but the seals are not made to hold oil in. They are made to keep exhaust and air pressure out of the center housing. Also a cause of leaks can be excessive crankcase pressure due to blowby or plugged crankcase vents.

It could also be that your oil drain is clogged. If that's the case the oil has nowhere else to go. Clean your oil drain fittings and replace the hose.

Replace your PCV, clean or replace your air filter with a higher flow one made for turbochargers, clean out your charge piping and inter cooler and run it for another few hundred miles and see if it is still doing it.

Nowhere in any of Garrett's literature does it ever mention a restrictor. If you want proper info go to the source.

crank vent has its own filter. i have a k and n filter on a perrin sri. pcv is the updated one from a supercharged millenia. turbo is brand new (installed last summer, only like 3k miles at most) ive read people on this forum who have installed restrictors, specifically Zuku26. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123753420-How-to-Build-your-own-Oil-Line-Restrictor
it seems like its a debate that could be argued. Zuku26 claimed he talked to garrett and they recommended a restrictor.
also the sales rep for speedcircuit (where i bought the turbo) is also suggesting a restrictor and ive also read that these turbos dont like to see more then 55-60psi of oil pressure otherwise the oil forces itself past the seals. and these cars supposedly can get up to 70-80psi at WOT.
