I have a 2013 Mazda 3 Grand Touring with 96k miles. I am having a wierd issue that I can't seem to figure out. The car is equipped with a Push button Start
Symptoms are as follows:
I can start the car without issue. If I haven't gone above approx 30mph then I can power off the engine with no problem with one push of the power button. if i have driven above 30mph or more then when I go to power off the vehicle one push of the button does nothing. I have to either hold in the power buttton or press 3 quick successions, then it will shut the engine down but not power off the vehicle. Stays in acc mode. then push 2 more times and it will power off as normal. I can start the car back up and drive to end of the street low speed. Power off like normal.
I do NOT have any DTC's or dash lights illuminated.
I have found that when it is in the state where I cannot shut down the engine if I connect to OBD and use forscan software and perform an ABS Module REBOOT while the engine still running. I can then push the button one time and the engine will power off normally. So i suspect it has something to do with the ABS module which does monitor wheel speed via the Wheel Sensor.
I had just done a Front Left Strut replacement which required disconnecting the Wheel speed sensor and a bit of banging on the wheel Knuckle so I replaced that sensor to see if that would resolve the issue. No luck same issue.
I have seen the issues with "Park" sensors and really don' think that applies here. The car goes into park no problem, indicator on the Dashboard shows "P".
I have seen where people have suggested it is the button itself. using the scan tool software, i can confirm that computer is registering the Push button presses when i am trying to power off the engine. So don't think that is the issue.
Maybe the ABS module is having an issue but you would think that we should see some DTC or Dash Warning lights.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to go with this. I am in the process of selling this vehicle but trying not hand over something that not functional to someone else. The car is in great condition and would like to get the cars value when I sell it.
