You guys asked for the K&N part number for the filter that I used on my car- it is RC4650. The filter has a 3" inlet (because I saw that is what you guys were using) but it turns out that the MAF was only 2.5"- but it tightens down just fine- and the element is 6" long.

Also- I updated my site to have a dedicated MazdaSpeed parts page- not much there now- just MBC's and the FP reducer kit, but it will grow in time. Go to www.joepmbc.com and click on eithe the pic of my MSP or click on the Mazdaspeed link up top.

and my custom MAF bracket- I could have just bought a 3/4" wide strip of steel to bend one up, but we had 3" wide sitting around and I love playing with Plasma Cutters, so I cut it to width myself ..

I bought it from one of those over priced local import shops- it was like $52.. You could probably get it from Summit www.summitracing.com or Jegs www.jegs.com.

About $40.00 with the care kit (shipped).

This filter works great. It does however, slightly rub that lining material under the hood. The filter Joe has looks thinner, and probably doesn't touch that. They may have that filter at AJ's.

The only thing with yours (no offense ) is it is a bit on the small side- Yashooa- stay out of this one!! .. I wanted something a bit bigger (again, let it slide ) that would flow more air, especially since I am running at higher boost levels.

Your bracket is nice, but did you get to play with a plasma cutter ? I swear, I would get into soo much trouble if I had one here!!! "Hot water heater? That had the hole in it when we rented the place" "yes, the fire door always had a smiley face carved into it" .. I can see it now....

I put a HKS Super Mega Flow on and it gave it more top end power but it was slower in the 1/4 mile compared to the stock air box. Top speed 100 MPH+ was faster though with the HKS.

After numerous test runs these were the times

15.22 @89 with the HKS
15.12@90 stock air box.

I think just the drop in filter by itself doesn't do much on my car. Where could I find a bracket like the ones you guys have..I can't fab one..so..? Maybe when I up the boost the filter will help more..but my car seems to be running better w/ the stock air box on. Less hesitation/stumble..no idle issues...

We made that bracket from a piece of metal that happened to be lying around. It even had the holes in it. We put it in a vice and twisted it, the way we needed. We found a locknut that fit on that long post, and we used the same bolt that was used on the stock airbox to fasten it to the MAF sensor.

I dunno, I never did a back to back comparo. I am just used to using 9"-12" filters on all the built cars, so that one just looked small and restrictive.. Are we actually outflowing it- I have no clue .

If you have a drill, vice and hammer- you can get metal strips from Home Depot. Anywhere from 1/2" wide to 3/4" wide should do it. I think the one I used was 1/8" thick.
