Yes a 2023 CX-5 Oil Change Thread

This is what I do, I don’t know why the owners manual isn’t up to API SP or recommend GF-6.
because it's an old-ish engine design that was designed around the SM oil spec. Any SN, SN+, SP, spec oil that has come since will provide much better performance than SM

either the dealer or mazda swag. crazy thing is I got a $30 coupon from my local mazda dealer that claimed same as cash on it. I asked if I could use it on filters and the parts guy looked at it and said yes and brought out three 1wpy-14-302 filters. So my point is check your dealership or call to see what they charge. Prior to this time they wanted $19.95 for the same filter so I ordered 4 via mazda swag and emailed them and they sent a discounted shipping code. This is the filter your car came with from Japan.

You emailed Swag and inquired about ordering the WPY filters rather than what they have on their website? And they even gave you a discount on shipping?

Do you have to replace the drain plug washer every time?
What are they made of and what size?
I may have some that work...

I use 14mm Honda type rubber o-rings. They seem to hold up for a number of changes and don't leak.

It's an aluminum crush washer. My dealer provides them on request.

With that said, I don't change them anymore because I use a Fumoto valve.

I am mixed on another fumoto for these reasons...
Always had a problem with opening it...I know, supposed to be simple but maybe the angle of attack was wrong in my sitch.
Takes longer to drain.
Worried that a tech would ruin or replace it with a bolt.
Not sure it saved time or mess...

It has definitely saved me mess because I put an empty 5 qt up to it and drain directly. No intermediate oil catch pan. I also fill up my sample bottle. It's as easy as refilling my water bottle.

Which one are you using? I use this one: Fumoto® SX Series Oil Drain Valves

They say they improved the flow over previous models.
