This wasn't even my idea. My dealer has been sending me offers. They wanted to buy my 2021 with 35k miles and sell me a new 2025. Of course their numbers were not very aggressive but they did alert me to a very strong used car market at the same time dealers have many 2025 CX5s on the lot and it is well into 2026 with the new designed 26 model coming out. Still, I didn't want to go through the hassle of talking to a salesman so we took our 2021 in for its 35k mile service. Dealer said 2 tires were worn and they recommended 4 new tires + alignment for $1300! My wife would only consider it if we got the same color - blue exterior with parchment leather interior. 2025 CX5 2.5 preferred is equivalent to our 2021 Grand Touring. We located a nearby dealer that had 3 of these. I asked for an "out the door price" ie, the number on the check I would write to drive the car away. He eventually came back with $32.5 (Car has a roof rack and typical BS dealer add-ons). Carmax honored their $22k offer so for $10.5k we have a new car, new tires, new warranty and new car smell. Nobody knows we have a new car unless we tell them because it looks exactly like the old car (except for the roof rack).
