2017~2025 Removing Drivers Seat Mazda CX-5 GT 2017

Hi All,
I dropped an apple air pod under my seat and it went down the hole under the seat. How easy is it to remove the seat? Is there any risk of air bags going off or safety concerns after and think I need to know? Anyone have a video or diagrams for me?
Thanks All
Tom

Interested in this as well. I’m going to pull the seat to bring to an upholstery shop to try and make the base tolerable.

I’m planning on disconnecting the battery because of the air bag.

This is horribly basic but might help.

It's from an online owners & service manual website.

One thing that concerns me is it says that when you reinstall the passenger side, to "perform the seat weight sensor inspection using the M-MDS after installing the passenger's seat." The sensors in the 2019 CX-5s work off of electrostatic capacity, not weight (Pg 2-71 in the owner's manual.) So don't go nuts putting a sack of potatoes on the seat and wondering why the dash light says "Passenger Seat Empty."

Here's one from the same website on front seat cushion/trim removal & installation.

At least it's a start.

Probably far too late, but this is what I did when it happened in my 2024 CX5:

1. Went to Autozone and bought a set of E-Torex sockets. The bolts holding the seat in place are not normal hex bolts, but a unique shape called Torex bolts. Be careful not to buy I-Torex bits, they don't look like regular sockets anyway but mistakes happen. I also needed a flat head screwdriver and some thing like a paperclip to bend into a hook. You'll see why.

1A. DON'T disconnect the electric wires under the seat just yet. Youll need everything in order to power the seat motor so you can have enough room to maneuver yourself and your wrench for steps 2 and 3.

2. Moved the seat all the way forward and removed the rear two bolts with an E12 Torex socket on a regular socket wrench. (Lefty loosey!) This was difficult because they were probably installed with an air-powered impact wrench and I was using a regular socket wrench and my own weak nerd arms. Still got it done though.

3. Moved the seat all the way back and repeated step 2 with the two front bolts.

4. Tilted the seat, the rails it sits on, and the kitchen sink backwards to reach the umbilical of wires that connect the seat to the car. Im gonna try attaching a photo of it, but basically it's got a bunch of red, green, and yellow wires going into it and a bright white rectangle near the top. This is where that flathead screwdriver comes into play.

The exact mechanism is that white rectangle is supposed to pop out towards you, and then you push it down like a lever to disconnect the seat wire harness from the car. I shredded my fingertips and nails trying to get a good grip on it, so instead I used the flathead to pry out the white rectangle, then shoved the tip of it between the white rectangle and the edge of the harness to engage the lever function. My fingers ache just typing this.

5. Get the seat out of the way. Get it out of the car, you're gonna need all the room you can get.

6. Where the wire umbillical goes underneath the car. That's where my key went. However, the space that hole leads to is MASSIVE. Since I had driven around a bit before seriously looking for this key, the momentum of the car moving had made the key shift forward, away from the hole and towards the gas pedal.

Removing the seat from the car was important because I had to use every inch of room to search that massive cavity, and finally find my key.

but there's some part of the frame that was blocking my big meaty hand from actually reaching forward to get the key, so I had to fashion a hook out of a giant paperclip and fish it out. Protip: in the last two pics, you can see my key is sitting in a trough of sorts. I was able to use the hook to push it back towards me, and realized the metal block doesnt extend all the way to the ground. My key went under the block and I was finally able to grab it with my hand.

Hope this helps some poor soul.
