Wtb gtr

I am looking to find the elusive jdm 1.8 gtr motor from the familia protege. I am looking to tackle the engine swap into my 03 msp. PM me if you know where i can get my hands on one.

Thanks

you would be better off going to clubprotege.com because they deal with more old school motors and setups. JeffMSP on here is doing a swap into his msp using a toyota tranny, you should check it out.

The FE3? What is that out of?

It the predecessor for the FS, probably easiest to find in 626's, it has the preffered rating between piston size and piston travel.

The BPD (or BP2) is a good engine, but basicly it is a standard BP that is modified for higher loads (bigger oil squirters bearing support and head ports are the main differences I think) The biggest thing about the BPD is the ECU that hasn't got any boost cut built in.

What year should I look for

BPD was only used for GT-R and GT-Ae , that would be 92-93.
FE3 was used for JDM and EDM 626 from 88-94 with the exeption for the 626 wagon that was used until 97.
The FE3 is also found in the US with KIA branding found in a 94-03 Sportage.

There is also a AWD transmission for the FE3 to be found, but that one is a bit rare since most 626 sold was FWD.

Just read that the Sportage was offered as AWD, but don't know if that transmission will fit in a Mazda

I have found a couple bp-t motors out of 323's what do you know about them

The GTX engine is a normal BP engine with a turbocharger and boost cut in the ECU, not unlike the FS-DET and FS.DE engines. The JDM spec is more powerful than EDM spec but the JDM is picky about fuel. You can of course rebuild a BPT to BPD but if you choose that option you might aswell start with a normal BP engine.

I'd go for the BPD or build your FS-DET, just watch out for transmission failure if you go too far...
If you are rather dead set on changing the engine an AWD FE3 setup or KF/KL setup would be good options.

There is a lot of information already written out there, check it out, like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B_engine

Thanks man. I think trying to go AWD is where I want to go in the future but for now I think I'll build the DET.
