wondering IF an MP3 ecu is worth it.

wow people on edmunds forum on the protege5 are retarded. I just did a google search and that site pulled up with a 1,000 post long thread on problems with the p5. Some times I would hate to be a car dealer who has to deal with peoples stupid questions about their car.

Can you give an example?

Example: I recently bought a MP5 2003 with 10,000 miles on it. Seemed to be running great for a while, but I noticed that when I would have the fan or air conditioning on there seemed to be a bit of a hick-up in the power at times... It would hesitate upon acceleration, and the wierdest thing of all, the lights would dim very slightly and then go back to normal. I took it in to the dealer I bought it from and asked them to check it out. They said it was "normal" when the fans would kick on for the engine to feel a drain on the power. I don't really buy it. I've driven enough cars before this one to know that the motor should be able to handle powering the ventilation system without dimming the lights and causing the car to be jerky when I'm speeding up. Any clues or ideas?

How old is this guy?

No wonder dealers are rough on the customers at times.
the stock battery sucks :)

Mine's still going!

My friend has a mp3 ECU on his P5, we both feel no different from the stock ECU....

when i put my MP3 ECU in my P5 i didnt feel that much power at first, but about 200 miles later i did notice that the power curve was much better (smooth) and the power didnt die out after 6.5k rpms.. now it pulls hard to redline.. iv got some mods on the car now and it feels great..

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but you guys have more money than brains if you can justify this ECU's value @ $300+

Unless you rag the s*** out of your car, you will only notice a very slightly smoothened powerband.

In the mean time, while you are beating on the car to try and justify your buyer's remorse, you will realize that your gas cost just went up as well.

Yeah, $300 is surely pushing it, but show me another mod that gives improved power across the rev range, about a 5-hp peak increase, improved driveability, quieter-than-stock operation, and factory reliability for that kind of money.

You can't.

you're wrong. even just city driving its much easier to drive. no holes in the power band, no shudders, no jerky low speed crawls. It is MUCH nicer. Also, I get about 30 more miles out of a tank now, averaging 32.9 mpg vs 30 with stock ecu, and up to 30mpg city only driving with the mp3 ecu. average fuel costs are actually lower with the mp3 ecu
