wondering IF an MP3 ecu is worth it.

most need a real mp3 ecu to flash with

So does anyone have the procedure to reflash an ECU to the MP3 map given that we have both the donor (MP3) and recipient ECUs together??? Is this something a Mazda Dealer can do with their existing equipment?

I've located a dealer who is willing to do this for all of us (for a fee) if he only knew how. He has a new MP3 ECU on hand for that...

Let us how it can be done!

so..i just put my ecu in. No noticeable difference yet except for the fact i'm paying $1.10 for a Liter of 91 octane. Super rich under WOT. But 3rd gear pulls a bit better on the highway...like above 100kph. The car seems to want to pull past 6500rpm now.

Any change yet?

Here's how it was explained to me by a buddy that works at a dealership.
you need to have 2 cars
1 w/ the MP3 ecu. The other with the old one. They hook up to the OBDII port, pull the code off of the MP3 computer and upload it to the non-MP3 car.

Interesting. So, not only is the MP3 ECU is required, but the MP3 car is required too? Couldn't one use a single Protege by swapping the MP3 ECU in and out or do two proteges need to be hooked up simultaneously? Can the computer store the info or does this procedure need to be done for each ECU recipient flashed?

If we can get a Mazda tech to explain this procedure to another Mazda tech, I think we can get this worked out! I have the dealer holding the MP3 ECU looking into this now. I told him that if this can be done, there are about 100 people interested if the price is <$150 which equates to a big profit for them.

Do we know for certain that this can be done? Has anyone actually done this in the past?

Great questions! Let me know when you find an answer. I went the easy route and, just slapped an MP3 ECU in mine lol

Great, until you turn on the A/C. It's not happy for some reason.

hmmm ... funny thing with the A/C could this be a problem if i decide to go MP3 ECU

I mean not really, it's just not very happy. I ride with the windows down most of the time anyway, but the few times I have the A/C on it seems to be a LOOOOT weaker. Worse than w/ the stock ECU

I bet its not weaker but since your used to the extra power from the timing advance it probally feels worse then it really is.

once you get moving it's not too bad. From a stop? Terrible.

Mine is pretty bad from a stop with the air on as well. It's much better on the freeway of course because you usually don't have to stop. But it's all worth to me because I don't really use my air that much.

mines awful stop and go with ac on

Mine too but that's due to the cam timing for me. But it's worse now w/ the mp3 ecu.

3rd gear pulls better for me. Nothign else felt diff. I have a few issues w/ the car of course right now so I can't really report anything. My cel from my header has not come on in a LONG time though.

does ne one know the code on this ECU cuz the scrap yard is asking me so they can see if they have one ... US and CAN if there diff plz .. thanks alot guys.
