Hey guys, well i have a guy who's trying to get rid of an mp3 ecu. Here's what i have. An ebay intake, OBX 4-1 headers. That's basically it. Will i really benefit from the Ecu without a catback and mid pipe? I know it adds about 7 or 8 whp and it also smooths out the power curve. I also know i have to remove the VTCS with this, is it hard to do?

Now i know i have to use 91 octane gas if i get it, but will the ECU have any effects on my MPG? Will it decrease?

Thanks for any and all help

Joey

You don't HAVEto remove the VTCS...It will just stay open all the time....But removing it is the best move...check the How to section for Porting and POlishing, VTCS removal...Not really that hard to do.

As far as the MP3 ECU, I believe the benifits are good enough to sway them out. The accelaration is nice and smooth, but your power is not going to be amazing. I've been getting around 22-25 MPG with mostly city driving with the new gas, and that's just about the same as with the P5 ECU

Depends on what you pay for it. My mileage actually increased by 1 mpg running 93.

Don't need to remove VTCS. Miine is still in. Defintely smooths out the midrange power. Had mine in for about 70k, currently has 146k on the car and still running strong. I got mine from a salvage yard and paid $80.

It is worth the money if you don't over-pay. $100 is a fair price. Certainly don't pay more that $125.00.
The ECU does give you a decent little gain with help from supporting mods such as those you already have.
And yeah, even though I pay more for gas, I actually spend a little less. I average @ 2mpg more with the MP3 ECU.

If my memory serves me, The MP3 ecu can only be used with manual tranny's, no?

In my opinion, you can have better improvements in performance for the price... I think that ECU is 350$ ?? I would pass on that if this is the one... to expensive per HP gained...

You can find them for 100 to 200 bucks. for the money they are on par with say a CAI for about the same money and HP improvement. Really not much other choice CPU wise for that money.

Yes they are only good for standard tranny's as alll MP3's came with a 5 speed stick.

Try Car-parts.com. Collection of salvage yards across US and Canada. You can get good deals from some of these places.

i think it was well worth the wait and hassle, smooth power band and a lil ore pickup

the final difference in gas is a couple of bucks at the pump, not THAT bad....

I've been watching every possible source for 4 months and the only one I saw took 11 minutes to sell for $250.

There are about 20 guys waiting around for these ECUs--no farking way you can get one for $100.

PS If anyone has one available PM me to negotiate price.

Maybe harder these days. I've had mine for a couple of years now. They only made 2000 MP3's. I agree pickings will be slim.
