Winter tires?

Hi everyone,

Most of you seem to be from the States, and from what I can tell, the trim levels are different in the States compared to Canada. I'm not too sure what the equivalent of the Mazda 3 GS in the States would be in terms of trim level but um. I am going to purchase a set of winter tires this summer, and don't want to break the bank. Nor do I want to really cheap out and have a bad experience on the road due to the poor choice I made. Can anyone here please make suggestions as to which brands/models of tires give you the best bang for your buck, and possibly even some specific recommendations?

We have been very happy with the Dunlop WinterSport 3D tires on our '08 3, which we got from TireRack mounted on 16" steel wheels. They will actually fit our 2014 3 when we get it as well, but I might sell them with the old car and get a new set on some better looking alloy wheels.

It wouldn't be a pair -- you really need winter tires on all 4 wheels. Yeah, we're giving our current 3 to our son and he could use the winter wheels & tires since he lives even farther north than we do. I'm going to try the car with the OEM all-seasons on it, but if we get another winter like this last one I'm sure I'll be online to the TireRack site ordering a new set of some sort!

Yeah, I meant a set of four, my apologies. I'll look into them. Just wanted to get winter tire shopping out of the way this summer

I have some nokian hakkapelitta 7 studded tires from my subaru that I am crossing my fingers will fit on the Mazda3. The set of 4 including rims cost like $1400 but they were the best winter tires I have ever had!
