202/65R16 Winter Wheel/Tire Setup for Tuned 2015 Mazda6?

:
2015 Mazda 6 -- Skyactiv 2.5L NA W/ 91 Octane Tune
Specs:

Fast Wheels | Aventure 16x6.5 ET40

Michelin X-Ice Xi3 | 205/65R16 (2016 Manf. Date)

Bought for $400 CAD with good condition tread. No cracks, bends, patches, etc. Wheel offset, tire diameter is within OEM specification. What are your thoughts on the wheel and tire specs for my car? I've heard of some concerns with caliper clearance using a 16" wheel. Anyone running a 205 width tire on the 6/CX-5 for the winter? I have some concerns of it being too narrow for my 91 octane tuned 2.5L. The tires are 9 years old, but the tread is in great shape. Will winter performance be degraded?

When you need new tires, look at options in 215/65R16. Back when I had a 2016 Mazda6, that's what I used in winter. The revs per mile rating was an exact match for the 225/45R19 stock tires.

Yes, winter performance will be degraded, but mostly because you're using a soft tread compound with lots of siping. I know that mine is an unpopular opinion, but my take is that even in the worst winters I've ever experienced (Pennsylvania, Iowa, and Michigan) I've really needed snow and ice traction for maybe 5% of my driving time or distance. The rest of the time I was running on clear pavement but with a tire that sacrificed lateral grip and braking performance. Unless you live in the Rockies or downwind from Lake Huron, you're probably better off with a performance winter or 3PMSF-rated all-weather tire.
