why is there a street racing section?

Should The Street Racing section be removed?

that's not what this is about.

it's about whether this board accepts/endorses it or not.<!-- / message -->

is it? in that case the solution is simple.....oh wait, the solution has already been taken care of. http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56262
so maybe this whole thread and poll should be deleted dmitrik?

Note from Admins: The fact that this forum exists does not mean this board or the staff condones street racing. It was only created to keep these discussions out of other forums. Thanks.

If the image Antoine wants to have of this forum is that "it is illegal, we put fine print that it is wrong, but here is a place to brag about it",

is that fine print on **********?
maybe the co. should be called trackunit. and the slogan should read We stock the latest performance parts for your (track instead of) street machine!

1)Leave discussing forum vendors' names out of this. Borderline bashing.
2) Street Unit's forum do not have a street racing thread.
3) Street Unit does not participate, or support illegal street racing. Period.

This thread has gone so far off track close it, lock it, delete it. When someone posts about beating another car, the responsible people can post links to recent news about street racing deaths. Problem solved.

1. not bashing. making a very valid argument.
2. good for them
3. good for them.....but i still don't see anything denouncing it their site. guess their one step behing MSProtege.com.

as for this part you are just asking for trouble. yes it should be deleted. but if you start posting negative stuff in peoples race posts you will just get flamed.
i'll digress to others previous posts...."if you don't like it don't go in". It really is just that simple.

yes, i've read that thread. the part that makes my point (that, legalese fine print aside, it's there as an endorsement) are things like these:

"i think the idea is great dan, that way people who do this type of stuff don't have to get bitched at."

and what you just said:

why will you get flamed for posting negative stuff about street racing, if the board is actually against it? if it's truly meant as a place to stick those threads so they don't gum up legitimate forums, what's the problem with people voicing their negative opinions?

is the purpose of that forum only to say how cool and fun street racing is? if so, i'll accept that you have a point, but then the conversation goes back to the true nature and appropriateness of such a forum on a board that does not endorse street racing.

if it's strictly an administrative organization tool, and not an endorsement as has been claimed, there should be no problem with people posting their negative views in threads.

do you see the logical disconnect? you can't have it both ways; either:

A) the forum is meant to legitimize street racing and people who don't agree should stay out, or

B) it's basically another version of the dumpster, and people should be free to criticize all they want (esp since they're just voicing the official policy of the board).

perosnally, i think the reality is A), and either it needs to go, or mazdaforums needs to be honest with itelf and others regarding its stance on street racing.

nailed it dmitrik. and just remove the disclaimer from the racing and kill section, it's just an insult to one's intelligence.

Thats funny, lol. Lets keep SU out of this and stay on topic!

FYI here is a bit of the SU policy...

...The customer bears all risk for racing and the modification caused by the aftermarket parts. Some products listed are legal only for racing vehicles which may never be driven on public highways. Check with your local law enforcement agancy and obey your local laws!...

We do not condone street racing at all and if you know me personally, thats the truth.

nice kill

I voted no. Quick kills at a light or something is one thing, but actually racing someone down the street going 60-70 mph dodging in and out of traffic. Nope. Makes me wish they never came out with the F&F movies. In my opinion it just made things worse out on the road. Every other teenager on the road wants to race me, then they get mad when I wave them on. Kids these days.

LOL i just typed it off of the invoice in front of me... my bad

I see it like this...

If there's no outlet for people to talk about their stories... there wouldn't be a good way to gauge who is influenced by the mods we talk about in other threads. This way we can talk in these forums and advise people, for instance... "hey, if always remember there are trade offs with what you are doing.." "..the faster you go, the quicker and harder you'll need to stop. Make sure you do a break upgrade if you're going to do anything silly"

Trying to change the mind of someone dead set on racing illegally is really hard. We need to educate these people and help them be safer if they are going to indulge. Remember the whole.. "just say no" campain... yeah.. same s*** different pile. Telling someone not to do something isn't going to do much. Tell them why they shouldn't. Or educate them so they can not only protect themselves but also the people around them. Promote defensive driving. This may come across as a bit of a generalization... but the people that get people killed on the street are more so kids that supe the s*** outta their car because they have lots of cash to burn layin around and have no idea how to control their vehicle when it comes time to actually control it, ie.. braking hard.. back end starts to go out on them and they have no clue how to correct this. Defensive driving, and details how to increase the saftey of yourself and those around you will decrease this problem... because unless you pull over every single modified car and impound it before they race (which isn't gonna happen), racing illegally and getting away with it, with cops cracking down more, will just be part of the fun for those that have no idea what they are really doing.

So, No is my vote.

Cheers!

We already have a section for what you are talking about called the Motorsports section where there is a ton of information about how to set up a car to go racing properly and we have plenty of people who post there that actually know something about car control. Those people don't make it over to the street racing section that much because it isn't about information, it's about ego's.

My vote is for 'No'. Keep the forum there.

Yes, street racing is dangerous. Yes, I wish everybody 'took it to the track'. But we all know that will never happen.

This forum is not a parental unit. Having the section only serves to keep the forum more organized -- otherwise the actual TRACK racing section would be filled with street racing stories.

IMO, if you don't want to hear about it, then don't visit that forum.

That said, I will link this thread in the staff forum for further discussion.
I voted "NO" because I agree that if it weren't for that forum, it would just get all mixed in with actual track/autocross racing. How about just move it to Off Topic?

other boards don't have that problem, b/c it's well established that street racng threads aren't tolerated.

for example, try posting one on NASIOC (which has far more members than we have). they have a ton of street racers ("my STI is teh mad tYt3 fastAR, y0!!1!one!!"), but no street racing threads, and certainly none in the motorsports forum.

if a board decides it's not going to put up w/ that garbage, the garbage goes away. if you give it a place to fester, of course it's going to find it.

ps. BTW rogue, your sig cracks me up.

But it's not like the racing goes away. It's like if you make your kids scared to talk to you about drugs, they just learn to hide it better. It's better to have it in the open and have an honest conversation about it.
