Which Tires?

I need new tires for my stock rimmed MSP. I plan to stay with the stock size. I'm looking for opinions on tires... with pro's and con's of each. Has anyone gone to a ultra high performance all season tire? Which one? How did it compare to stock summer tires? Thanks!

Does Portland get snow? If not, I'd stay away from anything labeled "all season".

I had a set of Falken Ziex 512 tires (replaced by the Ziex 912) and was less than thrilled. These tires were very hyped up, but I wore through them in about 7 months and close to 10,000 miles (most of which was interstate driving).

Now I have a set of General Exclaim UHP tires. Depending on where you look, these tires might be labeled as "ultra high performance all season" or "ultra high performance". Tire Rack suggests not even using them in temps below 45 degrees (which is consistent with any summer oriented tire). I got caught in a snow storm with them and they did not do very well at all. Otherwise, traction, noise and wear seems to be fine. But I'm probably going to try to get one more summer season out of them and then replace them with something else.

Yepp.... we get snow, but the car gets parked when there is snow or ice on the road. The big issue is rain and cool temps. The roads are wet half the year and I want good grab in wet conditions. Also, we have temps below 45 in the mornings and evenings, prolly about 1/4 to 1/3 of the year, and I noticed that many summer tires say they shouldn't be used in those conditions. I'm running Kumho Ecsta ASX on the stock wheels. I like them. They're pretty good on wet conditions as long as you stay out of the deep puddles. They suck on snow, barely any traction even on a light powder snow. They are the ultra-high performance all seasons. I have not run any other tires on the car, so I cannot compare them to another brand.

I'd say get the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, I have the RE950AS cause they come in our stock size, and the RE960's dont, But they are mainly the same But as long as they say "pole Position" you know they are the best Bridgestone tires, hands down!

But if you look at the list there are a ton that are great

All I know is when I asked my tire guy, he said they dont make it in the 960's (this was a year ago though) but he said the 950 pole positions make my size.

OK..... so, per Tire Rack's in-house testing, the All-Season tires scored (overall rating) like this, versus their cost.
1. Bridgestone Potenza 960 A/S Rating: 7.45 Price: $146.00
2. Pirelli P Zero Nero Rating: 7.34 Price: $139.00
3. BF Goodrich G-Force SS A/S Rating: 7.22 Price: $121.00
4. Yokohama Advan S-4 Rating: 7.19 Price: $166.00
5. Goodyear Eagle GT Rating: 6.78 Price: $ 98.00

In order of best value (dividing rating by cost)
1. Goodyear Eagle GT Value Index: .069
2. BF Goodrich G-Force A/S Value Index: .060
3. Pirelli P Zero Nero Value Index: .053
4. Bridgestone Potenza 960 A/S Value Index: .051
5. Yokohama Advan S-4 Value Index: .043

Based on the above, I like the BFG G-Force... a 3.1% prop in performance from the #1 rated, but a 17% lower price, which means a 15% gain in value (Bang for the Buck). But I haven't driven on them.... Has anyone?

I only get the best so i wont get the G-force Hahaha, and the RE50's costed me 200$ each for install and everything.

I'd get the BF Goodrich. I've run their brand (ultra high performance summer tires) and so has my dad (I believe he has all season but I don't remember for sure, I can ask him if you want), and we've both loved them. They tend to be a brand of tire that's ALMOST as good as the costliest option, but without the hefty price tag.

Personally, I'd take quality that's still damn high and use the saved moniez for another mod any day!

Nitto NeoGen - have used them for about 1.5+yr = almost 15k miles and they deff. are good on wet & dry except snow where they aren't good but I have gone through 2 winters with these non the less.
I have them in stock size on stock rim.

For the price and what they do - they are the perfect ($/performance/mile)

i run the kumho asx's. for the price they are hard to beat. good overall performance, they havnt given me any problems, even in the snow

Of course ,we also have to consider the "look good" factor... cuz after all if we didn't care about looks we'd be driving Hondas

And I do have to say that the Bridgestone 960 A/S Pole Position tires look truly fine. Things would be so much simpler if Obama's recovery plan had a million dollars set aside for Mazda addict car upgrades.

after doing my research I just went with the toyo proxes 4's... Being in PA an all-season was a must and I didn't want to sacrifice performance. They're extremely grippy, handle equally as well in wet weather as dry, and I've pushed them pretty hard in the past two weeks I've had them. No snow here in the past few so no comment in that regard. They are fairly priced, offer great quality from handling to treadwear for the money, and since you don't want to sacrifice any aesthetic elements, the tread pattern is pretty badass for a symetrical tire...

My azenis's have been awesome in the rain and cold. However I do not recommend snow. I was gonna try and big balls it all winter but about an 1" went down scariest drive of my life! But as far as rain cold hot sick!!!!! Would also highly recommend the yoko advan neova. And the potenza re01-r. You figure these are all r rated compunds rated for about 18,000 miles. If your nice you'll get more than that.

Really? I drive the turnpike everyday so I have hit decent speeds while wet and havent had any lack of confidence... but now im scared the placebo effect may run its course :/

i hear u on the proxis 4 but if u get the t1r ull be a lot more satisfied with the toyo name....

i didnt really like bridgestones or michellins all that much, due to too much understear when diving into a corner.

its getting to be that time where i need to buy new ones and i am stuck betwen the toyo t1r and the dunlop direzza sport 1 star spec.... any suggestion on the dunlops
