Man,

It seems like the MSP camp has been suffering a lot of issues lately.
1. Engine Failures
2. Clutches
3. Squeaks

And most recently in the past few weeks. It's enough to get someone a bit (nervous)

Speaking of clutch issues ..

I know I read a post about it somewhere before -- at least, I think I did -- but I'm not sure if my clutch may be starting to go on me. I've noticed in the past week or so that I'm starting to get an odd shuddering/vibration when I shift. I notice it most distinctly when either upshifting or downshifting into fourth gear, just as I'm finishing letting out the clutch. I also feel it somewhat in third and second -- but you can't miss it in fourth.

Has anyone else had this? And if so, what did you guys do about it? Is it another wonderful perk of the transmission, or should I be taking it to the dealership to see if I may need a new clutch?

Dunno - there was a Protege TSB on clutch judders, check that and have the dealer check it out - and take the test drive WITH them so you don't waste a day of them saying "I drove it and it's normal". I'm wondering b/c I get a little judder just coming off the line normally in 1st, and the clutch pedal is slow coming back up when it's cold, so those will be on the list when I go in next.

Yes oh pinged one. The cold arse fluid is slow in mine when it stays in the 20's for several hours without being driven. Of course it seldom stays that cold here for very long. Haza! You bastards!

My MSP is one headache after another. Its at mazda right now gettin the transmission taken apart.

Not to mention a couple people have transmission problems...maybe blown differential? Yeah kinda gets me parinoid but I know most MSPeeders in Orlando and non have had any problems...just small annoying ones.

But I havent had any problem (crossfingers...knock on wood)...been to the dealer once (to get a reflash).

the shudder in third/fourth/fifth gear is what I just got mine warrantied for. It has been doing it for about 6,000 miles, but was getting so bad that it would vibrate the change in my ashtray everytime i shifted. Have them call Mazda and they will get an approval to replace the clutch assembly.

I'm still (nervous) because of all of this. Are all these people just banging the s*** outta the cars? Mazda couldn't have f'ed up THIS bad?

I think people are treating their cars like they were "made" for racing....they're not! It's just Mazda's little experiment to see how well this type of car does in the youth market. That's why the low production numbers, the low cost and why they went with a Mazdaspeed Miata this year. They're just trying different things before they commit to anything major. Just my $.02!

Well, all things considered -- I'm gonna stop by my dealership tomorrow and see what they can do about the shuddering/vibration when shifting. It'd be awesome if I got a new clutch assembly .. but, heh, knowin' these guys I can only cross my fingers.

If I get any good info, I'll pass it along.
