Mazdaspeed Protege 2003.5
Hey all...

I've just recently purchased a 2003.5 MSP and have been reading more posts than I choose to remember... Now comes the time when I need to make some big decisions in what to purchase for my toy, so I figure I should ask the experts (thats you). With so many different options, brand and features, I simply don't know what to look for when selecting parts. What I want is a BOV, Timer, CAI, FMIC and Exhaust. I was also looking at Joe P.'s XZ MBC/FPR/FCD package which appears to be worth while.

From reading the various posts I've selected the following products. If you should add/remove/fix or suggest different brands/config's I'd greatly appreciate it.

Either Greddy or HKS BOV (goods/bads?)
JoeP XZ MBC/FPR/FCD (I was hoping for an EBC)
HKS Turbo Timer Type-1 (the name sounds cool)
Injen Cold Air Intake (everybody else has one)
Exhaust?...

injen first, get one used like me :-D. uhh then get the exhaust. an apex downpipe is a good bang for the buck. 2.5inches is good for up to around 10psi (peoples can correct me if im wrong). then up the boost to around 9psi.

How much do you want to spend right off the bat? Intake, downpipe, and MBC @9psi is a good starter combo, and not too expensive ($250 for injen, $200-$400 for downpipe, $50 for MBC = $500-$700)

Hadn't really thought up a price limit yet... thinking in the 1.5-2g range. I appreciate the replies! This'll definatley get me started.

Perrin is coming out with a whole line up of parts for our cars including a intake, exhaust, fmic, fuel rail, sway bar, and short shifter. I would get thier parts because they make great products. As for BOV, TurboTimer, and Boost Controller I would go with Greddy.

How's the Hiboost FMIC? Do you know if they still sell this?

yea they sure do, contact chris at spd racing or juan from Hiboost. i actually havent installed mine yet. but if i were you i would definitly get one. only b/c with the extra boost my car pulls a whole lot harder and the heatsoak is, to me, 10x more noticable. IMO the stock smic, is inadequate for even stock boost. you can get injen cai, hibbost fmic, and greddy typ s bov for $1300 shipped. the 3 inch apex catless midpipe is $330 shipped..so we're at $1630..turning up the boost (fun part)is about..i would guess $150-200 depending on whether you want to go with mbc or ebc...so thats 1830+$60 for fuel cut defenser and your all set at 1,890 just my $0.02. im sure theres cheaper ways to do everything.
