What oil filter is good?

I think the PureOne is better than the stock filter. Throw some 10W30 Mobil 1 and you'll be set. As far as filter size goes, its not like we have a lot of oil to filter, at 3.9 quarts. So the small size shouldn't be an issue as long as its a quality filter.

Nothing could be more wrong. FRAM is the worst filter ever made. Go do a search on dsmtuners for how many guys have had these and they have come apart at high boost and desytroyed turbos and entire bottom ends. Not all filters are the same. WIX filters feature a far superior build quality. Mobil 1 is actually manufactured by champion labs, which are pretty much the best oil filter guys in the business.

I've done all of my own oil changes since I was 15. Fram used to make a decent filter, I swore by them and used them for years. They outsourced the entire operation a few years back and they are now CRAP. I've used the Fram, stock 626 filter, Mobil 1 and K&N. With the Fram, I would get cold start valvetrain clatter - every time. I used the 626 filter for a while, but noticed the pressure (bypass?) valve was at a different setting than the stock specs. I stick to K&N now, the "nut" on the end is worth the price alone and it's why I use it over the Mobil 1. Champion Laboratories in Albion, IL make both the Mobil 1 and the K&N. Ken has a good price, and you can also get them here: http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/store/start

Take a gander down the list of cars our K&N fits (there are some heavyweights on it :) , STi, Evo, Altima 3.5 and err ... Justy) http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/knfilt...607&ajr_skey=8786347f173ef1240952638b0f2f9bea

Also - here's a pretty good read:

Hum... I'm still at 6psi, and don't really drive my car "too hard" yet. Guess I will consider a different filter next time I change my oil. I do them my-self. Anything to save $50 for an oil change.

Fram #6607 I believe is the model number for $3... An oil filter is an oil filter... It's not like other brands are "SOOO MUCH" better then others... And even oil... It's all the same schnit...
Wow! Maybe he was kidding. (yupnope)

So is the gray line better, or the yellow

You can't beat the OEM filter but if you'd rather have somewhat greater filtering capacity (although I don't think it's needed) buy the Mazda 626 V6 oil filter. Same diameter, thread and pressure relief valve setting as OEM but taller, with ~ 30% greater filtering capacity.

My engine oil is Red Line 10W-30.
now this guy knows and red-line is the shyt, but "they" the dealerships say mobil1 is just as good but oem is the best (thumb)
