What have you done to your P5 today?

kind of fixed my front components. After my vacation I will be getting a new pioneer set to replace this one.

Also cleaned up my 08 Mazda6 calipers and got my ducks in a row so they can be installed when I get back.

Trip up to NY and back, averaging a hair over 80mph due to zero stops, and still was able to get above 30mpg for the trip. :)

This is what the new one looks like:

This is what I took out... stuck closed. Something missing?

Upside... I now have fresh coolant and NOT the brownish fluid that was in there before. I guess the dealer didn't check ALL of the fluids.

Maybe it was just a different brand of thermostat? Does it look broken?

That reminds me, I'm due for a coolant change...

I have no idea what the brand was on the failed one. The new one is Duralast. I think the added part is a fail-safe. Hopefully I won't have to find out if it works or not.

redlined it for the first time since i owned it...felt pretty nice...

on a side note, if anyone has broadway as a Mcdonalds monopoly thing SHOOT ME A PM ;)

Actually drove it home for the first time in about 5months... running good for a zero mileage motor, zero mileage LSD, zero mileage clutch, etc.....
can't wait to put some boost through it... but i shall... wait that is

Wow. I'm like the thread kryptonite around here. Anyways put 8miles on her today. Need to fix my battery ground.

Let's see, this past weekend I drove to Atlanta (from Knoxville - about 3.5 hours) for Petit Le Mans - POWERED BY MAZDA! Then drove it back home on Sunday, and my job required that I go back to Atlanta on Monday to get an expedited passport, so I've put some miles on her there. She's sitting at a hair over 170k miles, and will be doing just fine as soon as I find a damn vacuum leak.

Petit Le Mans: awesome. The Playboy MX-5 Cup and Star Mazda Cup (little open wheel racers with Renesis engines) were really fun to watch on Friday, but I think the GT class Corvettes stole my heart with the sound they made. I'm gonna have to start making it out to more races.

Ooh, I almost forgot: I went to Jim Ellis Mazda while in Atlanta the second time. That dealership is like the Mecca for anyone who does their own maintenance and needs OEM parts, such a huge inventory. Unfortunately, replacing my torn PCV grommet didn't fix my leak.

Noise has finally been diagnosed and not suspension related although the mechanic told me that the rear bushings on the right front lca are just starting to go bad. The culprit is my ps pump! I've never had one go on any of my other cars so had no idea what the sound would be like and also figured that if it was the pump, I'd be using a little more arm strength when turning so I discounted the pump as a possible cause. Gave me a quote of $1556 to change the tb (includes tensioners), water pump and ps pump. Said the ps pump alone was $492??? Going to do a little research on my own to see if a decent one can be had for less and just what would be entailed for the swap.

*edit - any suggestions on brands to steer cleer of due to issues?

Rockauto only sells Atsco and it was just under $200, AZ sells a Duralast for around $330 and I keep finding a Maval brand which is around $131 and a Crown which is $217.... Thought I'd ask and see if anyone has had problems with any of the above mentioned.

Install of belts and ps pump is a piece of cake, I was able to do it. Water pump was easy also but I already had my coolant drained so I could swap radiators.

Belts were just replaced last year so now is the time to do the pump and I saw that 505zoom has a handful of the v3 Medieval pulleys available. With the money I'd be saving from doing it myself I could upgrade the pulley and still come out ahead. Did you do the timing belt with the water pump too? I'll be honest the timing belt swap intimidates the hell out of me. Coolant will be drained soon though as I need to replace my rad.

Using it as my mini moving truck again. :)

Gotta love the functionality of a hatchback! :)

Mmm, so... What sorta paint would I want to use to paint the inside of my headlamps? I'm looking to paint them black or a rather dark grey. Ill probably do this all a little later when I have a retro kit so I dont have to open the assy twice and all. That would b much appreciated :)

Probably gonna do the fluids this weekend, while I've got tye oil out, I'll check the gaskets and all. I dont really wanna take too much apart but I cam assume getting to the piston rings would be laborious?
