What have you done to your P5 today?

I can see how people can get annoyed with the drone but so far it's bearable

I just installed mine two days ago as well. It does not drone as bad as people make it out to be. Then again I don't drive on the freeway at 80-85 mph (to preserve mpg during my commutes), so maybe that is where it gets noisy?

In any case, it isn't half as loud as my sentra spec v's exhaust. It sounds a lot better too.

I drove it last night through snow and ice on horrible low-pros, that was fun. Was better back to work and perfectly fine on the way home. I love the beach, other than no one knows how to drive in any condition other than perefectly sunny.

Anyone else wish the gearing was longer/taller, even in the stock NA form?

I just wish I wasn't stuck with the horrible 4-auto. 1st is too short; second is obnoxiously tall, and 3rd & 4th are... just... well, they're there.

In other news, I FINALLY got the error code eliminators from DDM in the mail today. Unfortunately I was at work so I had the flicker the whole way home. It won't be the same story tomorrow though. :)

Installed A Low Temp Thermostat, Flushed Coolant, Added 1.5 Gallons Of 50/50 Coolant, And 1 Quart Of Amsoil Coolant Boost.

I feel like my fist car (Honda EM1, 99 Si) had taller gears, and Some how I don't think its possible.

This guy! I would like mine to have a 6 speed.

I wish my p5 was a 6spd or my 5th gear was much longer :\

Any advice on what coilovers to stay away from guys for a p5?

You can do the 626 5th gear which is about 10% longer, but you really won't be able to accelerate much in 5th anymore lol, not enough torque. Before I got my header, going up hill I would lose speed even at WOT.

I don't need to accel in 5th. this is a city car. Or I just use it for road trips and use my S13 as the city car.

I think the more annoying part is going up hills on the freeway ... sometimes I would have to drop down to 4th just to stay with the flow of traffic LOL. Now with the header freeing up a bit more torque, I don't have that problem anymore.

Exactly! I had thoughts of doing the 5th gear swap. I worry about highway performance with the taller 5th gear, and I'm not sure whether or not it would pan out in the long run fuel mileage wise. I wish another Protege/P5 owner near me would do it first.

Mileage while cruising is great. I get over 30mpg on long highway drives if I keep it under 80, but if there are steep hills, then it used to suck LOL.

I got rid of my Mazdaspeed rear exhaust a week ago after driving it from Scottsdale to Flagstaff and back (total of 350 miles) @ average speed 75 mph... My P5 has an auto trans and @ 3500-4000 rpm range the drone sound is unbearable for long periods of time since the interstate speed limit is 75 mph and at times doing 80-85 mph... I initially noticed the droning sound when I installed my OBX headers and decided to change the mid-pipe. It reduced it a bit but still the sound was there and my wife was getting a headache after 10 mins in the car at 70 mph and I eventually got annoyed with it as well after making that long trip. So this past MLK day, went to the same shop where I had the mid-pipe installed and asked them to just replace it with regular muffler and had them install the tip from the Mazdaspeed muffler.....

My wife is now happy with it, I can have my sound system at a respectable level where I can still hear emergency vehicles nearby where before I had to have it a high level to drown out the drone noise. The only noise I hear now is my engine with Injen CAI and OBX headers all together when I make hard accelarations.

^thats my plan if I do get tired of it but I doubt it cuz it's not bad at all plus I know if you have a aftermarket header it's gonna get louder and more obnoxious but I'm not planning on adding a header to my build

Wait, you did the swap? How does it do on hills?

Yeah I've had it for a couple years now. On steep hills, that you would normally be able to maintain your speed at WOT, you would actually be losing speed lol. Also, its impossible to go over 100mph. This is all assuming you are fairly stock. Once I installed my pacemaker header, that freed up enough torque to accelerate on hills and hit 120+ (still pretty slowly).

Your in Bay area, Virginia beach is flat as hell. We are built on the swamp, so hills are further west and north and south of me.

I have a cold air intake and a header. Not sure how often I would need to go 100mph much less 120. However if I could lower the revs on the highway by a few hundred and not loose all of my speed when I hit a hill I might look into it further. Ohio is pretty hilly for the most part and it seems when I go out of state it's hilly there too. lol

Yeah the 100+ comment was more a relative indicator of the affect the longer gear has on an otherwise stock car.

Received a CR3 Dead Pedal. Should install it this week
