What have you done to your P5 today?

I had some fun today playing monster garage with some buddies. Ending up replacing both accessory belts and doing all motors mount except the rear. Wow what a b****! I dont understand some of you did it. It took awhile to get past the harness, and just impossible to get a good angle on the three bolts for the rear mount. Any advice or tips would be helpful.

Yea I just did mine. Easiest way is like this: Intake mani off, Pop off the plastic bracket that holds the big ass rope of wires to the firewall that is jsut above the mount however you can (You can try to get to the two bolts that hold it there but I couldnt get at em so I broke it off with a breaker bar after the top nut was off), and then put a deep well socket on whichever nut you start with, put a universal joint on that, then 2 12" extensions on that, then a bigass breaker bar to top it off. That was the only way I could get the damn things to pop loose, and boy when they let loose you know it lol. This was also after socking em with PB blaster and letting it sit overnight

IMO I wouldnt bother removing the butterflies if you arent turbo'd, wont really do much

Yeah, as far as the butterflies goes....I'm really not looking to do all that. Ive accepted the fact that running a n/a protege5 is slow and definitely not cost efficient. I was very tempted to break that wire bracket off the wall cuz how frustrating it was. I was finally able to get those two 10mm nuts off. I removed the intake. Then used a deep impact socket connected to a universal joint. I used one long ass (probably 2ft) 3/8 extension with a 1/2 socket flex wrench. I think i had too much flex in the setup because as I would try to turn the bolts...it felt like I was gonna break something. I may have to go get a real breaker bar.

Yeah i used an impact on the rear after crushing crushing my pinky and Taking the skin off 3 knuckles when i got one loose with a 2.5' breaker bar....i had like a 120psi on the impact and the hardest hitting setting on the gun to get the other bolts......i wasnt playing anymore......and removing the butterflies not hard takes a couple hours...adds a lil fun.....get the mp3 ecu for a bit more

Got a 2002 shift knob of a guy locally for $5. Huuuuuuge improvement. Love the feel, moved the top of the shift knob down a solid 2" from my weighted steel Type-R knob. I love it. Even looks 10x better IMO. I hated my 03 knob though.

PLEASE GUYS I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
I know this thread is old and lots of talk but I have no time to search and read.

I have a mazda protege5 with full stock suspension.
I am planning to upgrade to MSP sway bars, tokico blue struts and Tein springs (I already have everything).

My MSP racing beat sway bars they come with MSP horshoes brackets (front and Rear)..... but no endlinks and either bushings.

So, I am a little lost.... what do I really need for install these bars.
I know I can get the rear bushings from AWR and they are Energy suspension 20mm, also I need the MSP endlinks which I can buy them from dealer because they are longer than stock ones.

I've been reading some threads from others members and it seems not so clear what to do... and I don't why reason some dudes they install the AWR aluminum brackets to the subframe and then the horshoes brackets with bushings.... do I need them too?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

What makes you think this thread is old, possibly one of the most frequently posted in threads IMO? But about your question, someone else is gonna have to help you on that one.

There is a way to remove the rear motor mount without removing the intake manifold. You need a bunch of extensions and go through the wheel well, but it is possible. Fishdonotbounce did his like that.

I just removed my intake mani and used an impact wrench and a 1/2" universal joint with plenty of PB Blaster. It took a couple tries with the impact but it finally came off. And I recommend removing the butterflies while the mani is off. Everything is right there and it's basically a free mod so why not? I know I felt a difference in my motor after 4k rpm and I'm N/A.

The rear motor mount is a b****, but just because it takes a long time. It's not anything difficult or frustrating, just time consuming.

"also I need the MSP endlinks which I can buy them from dealer because they are longer than stock ones." Ebay has these for much much cheaper. For the rear you may or may not need adjustable endlinks (these can be pricey). I installed the AWR sway bar and I did need adjustable... but I have not seen the racing beat up close. You might be able to reuse your old equipment but im not sure on that because it depends on what size sway bar you went with i think.

Does anyone have a picture of those butterflies or a thread? Pros & Cons? Also, I wonder what side Fishdontbounce did his. Passenger or Driver side?(scratch) Im gonna get a 1/2 universal joint from work. Then me and mr. Rear motor mount will go round two...well at least when my hand heals a bit. (glare)

I did it without removing the IM, I used 50cm of 1/2" extensions, a u-joint, and a meter-long breaker bar. It worked great on my rusty P5 :)

Here's what my intake looked like. Take those bad boys out before it does some damage.

^^^ Well, those are the VCIS butterflies, Chris. The VTCS butterflies are high up on the intake mani.

I've read you should leave the VCIS alone though? I mean, of course unless your screws come out like yours. Not trying to argue with you brotha, just posting what I heard. But as far as the VTCS butterflies, I still say pull those turkeys out.

no biggie. i did the exact opposite. I took out the VCIS and left in the VTCS. I remember reading somewhere, (or we might have talked about it @ the shop) that the VTCS is more for cold starts. Who knows. Heck, get rid of them all. ha ha ha.
