What have you done to your P5 today?

like i said, im no expert, ive never done a retro before, just throwing my opinion and thoughts out there

as to Callie's, it started fine this AM so new battery cured it

Now i'm needing a gauge pod and volt meter for it to see how it's doing

I don't mess with red loctite. That s*** is like God's wrath.

You can just use a multimeter to check it for now...

yeah, but i'm curious during daily use.

If i tell her to keep an eye on the numbers, she will. Especially after having one dead battery

Not sure if this battery just died, or if it's one we replaced since we bought the car. It could be a 4+ yr old battery if it's the one that came in the car

A hydrolocked engine doesn't run... is your friend / mechanic retarded? Of course you start w/ plugs / wires / coils for a misfire... I'd also start by not letting this guy touch my car again (boom07)

Well, he is primarily a Honda mechanic. But I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks it's weird that he checked compression first.

Had a scare Wednesday. Rough running, CEL, had it towed to my parents' house and the family friend/mechanic read the DTC as cyl4 misfire. He suspected either hydrolock (due to my intake) or destroyed piston rings ("due to high revs - you autocross, right?" (eek2)).

I had to get back to class (luckily my family always has an extra car for some reason - I got dad's 2nd gen Protege), but I got a call last night saying that it had passed a compression test and he was going to try swapping the two coils. I had assumed that the guy who works on cars for a living would have started out by checking the ignition system when the ECM indicated misfiring, but apparently not. Swapped the coils and the misfire moved to cyl2; replaced the coil and the car runs good as new. The guy just about gave me a heart attack thinking I'd need a rebuild. I've never been so relieved to have a bad coil.

Thats one dumb sob.

Honda engines hydrolock the exact same way as any other engines lol

Yep, and their ignition systems are generally responsible for misfires too. The guy said that he had worked on a Civic with a CAI just the day before that had hydrolocked; I didn't even think any more of it past that.

I've been dragging my feet and haven't ordered tires yet.....so now I've got this crazy idea that maybe I'll drop a size and go with a 15" for summer. Looking at a 195/55/15 tire and currently browsing wheels.

Yeah, 15's! Though 195-55-15 is a bit shorter than 205-50-16

Yeah, I know. (scratch) They also adjusted the idle slightly up (but that was b/c they previously adjusted it a tad too low). It was more of a convenience thing - we went away for vacation and were able to drop the car off before we left, and pick it back up upon our return.

Well, the car passed emissions today, so that helps to further (somewhat) justify the $550 new cat price.

Also installed my Thule mini load bar (which attaches to the fore factory cross bar), and my 2 Thule fork mount bike trays and 2 Thule wheel carriers.

True but stock is 195/50 so that is what I based my comparison on. ;) Did some searching yesterday but couldn't find any wheels (within budget) that I liked. I did find some 5zigen FN01R-Cs for $165ea + $100 off the set but $560 for just wheels is not in my budget.... That said, I'll be keeping the MX-5 wheels.....for now.

hi guys first time to the forum.

I bought a P5 2 months ago and changed the EGR valve today (idle issues)
Car has 164,000 kms

Drove my son to soccer practice...all was normal. When it was time to leave I turned the car and nothing....no clicking or any noise. Borrowed some cables (I'll be buying a set tomorrow) and the car kicked right over after a few sputters.

Drove to Autozone to get the battery tested but they only had two employees in the store so they were not allowed to assist me outside the store.... So I went to leave and the car had died while idling in the parking lot. Went back in the store to borrow cables once again and after getting her jumped, drove straight home.

Guess I'll be buying a battery tomorrow too.

replaced my front motor mount, did a tranny flush.
and got rid of the rust spots around my widows (trim area)
not too happy about how that trim area turned out. i can still see where the spots where.
but...whatever its gone now.
